I bought the GT2 Pro in June '22 for the price of 135 euros.
I come from the 1st generation Galaxy Watch, so I can compare them. Let's make it clear from the beginning that the Galaxy Watch is a Smartwatch, while the GT2 is a Fitness Tracker. This means that the former is designed to have rich features, while the latter simply performs well in sports activities, so it is initially a comparison of dissimilar things. However, people simply want a "smart" watch that they like on their wrist, that doesn't need to be charged every day, and that allows them to see their mobile notifications. Therefore, this makes the comparison completely subjective in my opinion, so here we go:
- Battery: 4.5 days for the Galaxy, 2 weeks for the GT2. Personally, I didn't mind the 4.5 days of the Galaxy, but I lost it, so I decided to try something new.
- Notifications: This is where the GT2 lost one star from me. It fails miserably in the simplest and most fundamental feature of a "smart" watch... And let me explain:
a. On the Galaxy, when a notification comes in, the app icon is displayed. On the GT2, the SMS icon is displayed for almost all apps (Viber, National Bank, PayPal, etc.). The only exception I have seen is Gmail, which is displayed normally.
b. On the Galaxy, the sender's photo that you have set in your mobile contacts is displayed in the background. Not on the GT2.
c. On the Galaxy, when you receive a message from a Viber group, the group name AND the name of the sender are displayed. On the GT2, only the group name is displayed.
d. On the Galaxy, when you have pending notifications (i.e., ones you haven't seen), the operating system of the watch displays a discreet loop on the left. On the GT2, if it hasn't incorporated something similar by the creator of the watch face, there is no way to know.
e. The Galaxy synchronizes notifications with the mobile. Whatever is on one, is on the other, and when you dismiss a notification on one, it also disappears on the other, FULLY bidirectional. On the GT2, they are completely disconnected. If a notification comes to the watch, it stays there until you dismiss it, and if you dismiss one from the watch, it still exists on the mobile and vice versa.
f. GT2 notifications do not support emoji display, meaning if someone sends you an emoji in a message, it does not appear. On the Galaxy, they are fully supported.
g. GT2 notifications do not support photo display, meaning if someone sends you a photo in a message, it does not appear. On the Galaxy, they are fully supported.
h. Finally, the GT2 does not display the content of emails when you open the notification. You only see the subject...
- Heart rate sensor: On the Galaxy, when you sweat, it can no longer read your heart rate, but there is no such problem with the GT2.
- When driving, the GT2 constantly gets confused when your wrist turns and thinks you want to see the time, constantly turning on the screen. It's annoying when driving at night. The Galaxy doesn't get confused.
- The Galaxy fully synchronizes with your mobile calendar, and you can see all your events. The GT2 doesn't even have a calendar, not even a simple one to see when the weekends fall within the month...
- On the Galaxy, when you tap on a widget, the relevant details open. For example, if you tap on the sleep widget, it opens an analysis of your sleep, etc. The GT2 doesn't do anything for any widget... You have to enter the Huawei Health app on your mobile...
- If you are interested in making calls from the watch, you should know that the GT2 does not synchronize with your mobile contacts. You can only add up to 10 contacts. Fortunately, when someone calls you, the watch displays their name from the mobile phone normally... luckily. With the Galaxy, you automatically have access to all your mobile contacts. I should also note here that the Galaxy displays the photo of the person calling you in the background if you have added a photo to their contact on the phone.
These are my personal observations. Surely there are other things that could be said, but personally, these are the ones that interested me. If I had known all this, I would NOT have bought it. I was impressed by the sapphires and titanium for only 135 euros and I bought it, but I regretted it... It is beautiful, it is definitely durable due to the materials, but in my opinion, it is anything but "smart".... It's up to you to decide.
EDIT (June 20, '22):
I wore it 4 times during weight training in the Strength program to monitor my heart rate, and I was surprised that it showed up to 182 beats per minute! So, to test it, I tried to monitor my heart rate real-time during the workout from the watch, but WITHOUT activating the workout program. I did not exceed 115 beats per minute... So when you have an active workout program, it runs a separate algorithm that obviously produces huge errors... It's not even suitable as a fitness tracker!... Completely useless!
