Good but small

For the money, it's very good. Sometimes the windows see it as a CD! Obviously, it appears as a storage medium that contains installation instructions for the operating system. It fixes itself upon reboot.

- Range
- Does it disconnect/freeze sometimes?

Royal Kludge RK98 Wireless Gaming Mechanical Keyboard with Custom Red switches and RGB lighting (English US)
at 2025-01-1417/10/2025
Addition after hours of testing
-------------------------------------------
I have been trying it for a few days now and decided, for the sake of fairness, to give it four stars. With the reasoning that I mistakenly compared it to a keyboard that cost as much as a computer today back in its time. I give the stars in comparison to other good keyboards of the same kind.
What I always say below holds true, that is, the supposed "mechanical" keyboards have absolutely no precision nor the "Touch" of the IBM type M, which I expected after reading the reviews. No comparison. Even the most expensive one I tried.
Let me also mention the positives.
The plastic of the Royal Kludge RK98 has a very nice feel to the fingers. It's like silk. Well, different times today. Chemistry has advanced a lot. Different plastics.
Lighting for gamers. It's convenient when it's dark around. You know what I mean...
It has software that changes the EPROM. It stores three profiles on the keyboard itself.
You can download the software from the address: https://en.rkgaming.com/download/1/
Select: Keyboard->Drive
Attention. It does not have its own exclusive software. It has the general one called "RK HUB-BY Software". To communicate, the keyboard must be wired. Not connected wirelessly.
The distance between the keys is a bit smaller than normal (17mm instead of 19mm) and the letters slip away from me, but that's a matter of habit.
-------------------------------------------Initial assessment
If it weren't so heavy, it could be an ideal ornament for the Christmas tree.Let me clarify that this is my first keyboard of this type. I have typed out of necessity and occasionally, of course, on gum.
I have been using exclusively IBM type F and later IBM type M keyboards since 1983.
The one under evaluation I bought due to the requirement for telematics connectivity, which the keyboards I have from 1983 and 1988 do not have.
So compared to the keyboard I have been using for decades now, it looks like an Easter water gun next to a Winchester shotgun.
No consistency between feel and result.
No correlation between the click and the electrical contact.
The click is produced by the impact of the key on the body of the keyboard, not by the switch mechanism itself! (custom brown even though it doesn't matter).
It's like saying you shoot someone and make the bang with your mouth. :)The antenna seems to be on the bottom side, so if you place the keyboard on your lap, it doesn't communicate.
As for lights and garlands, there's no shortage. A regular cruise ship. I won't hide that I enjoy it. Hence the two stars. Also positive is the lighting of the letters on the keys. Although the characters are faint and hard to distinguish even during the day.
The only positive in this whole affair is that fortunately I bought something relatively cheap while I was ready to spend 250 euros for a "good mechanical" keyboard.
Well, I made a good decision in my life.I am also impressed by the positive reviews!!!
Well, from the kids who play games, they obviously haven't touched a proper keyboard and don't need to.
But from the "experts" presenters - reviewers!!!
What a shame for the reading I did for two months now. White, red, yellow, blue (and brown, banana, Jupiter) switches. Double-coated keys, damping membranes...In short, the term "mechanical" for these types of keyboards is far from reality.
Nothing. For the ... fuss- Key feel
