I bought it from a pharmacy, I don't know if it worked on its own because I also take pills. I believe it would have worked if it were on its own. It worked; I didn't experience any crazy freezing, but it helped me to a large extent. I took it for my back, as I had some musculoskeletal issues in my muscles. I apply it 3 times a day
