When I started to plant a garden here in Greece, about 3 years ago, I learned of this Cretan Stamnagathi and it's health benefits. I bought some seeds to try to grow my own, but had no success.

I purchased again, two packages of seeds which were delivered to me late November or early December 2024. I decided to try two different methods to germinate the seeds in one of the packages:

    1. I placed one of each "seed" into 4 seed pots filled with high quality tray substrate soil and kept moist, but not wet. The seeds were planted shallow - basically placed the seeds on top and then slightly covered them with more soil.

    2. The remainder of the seeds I decided to try to germinate inside a baggy with a zip lock on moistened Wettex. What I learned from this was very interesting.

First, all the seeds in the pots germinated - but the seeds in the baggy with moist Wettex germinated faster.

But what I also learned is that what I thought were the "seeds" is actually sort of a husk that surrounds 4 seeds. I discovered this when I noted that some of the "seeds" (or what I thought were seeds) had 2 to 4 roots germinating. I also noticed later that with some of the "seeds," smaller black seeds had emerged, and from those, each a germinating root.

So, with some seeds of the second package, I removed the outer covering of what many will probably assume is a single seed, and indeed, within each one, I could find 4 tiny black seeds.

This information might be helpful to others who have had difficulty germinating stamnagathi.

For the germinated seeds on the Wettex, I simply took a pair of tweezers and placed each germinated seed on top of tray substrate soil in a seed pot then sprinkled a little more soil lightly on top.

I kept them moist (not wet) and am very pleased with the germination rate I am seeing.

Another thing is that one needs much patience. I started my experiment on December 8th. Some "seeds" germinated in about 10 days, while others are still just germinating now, almost a month later.

Temperature may also be a factor: The first time I tried to germinate Stamnagathi seeds was in the heat of the summer. These ones that are germinating are germinating in average temperature of about 13C so perhaps they like the cool more than the warm.

To sum things up, I am very pleased at this point with these seeds that Green Center sent me that with a bit of experimentation and observation, seem to have a high rate of germination although some of them can be very slow which is fine.

  • This arrived very well packed to ensure the glass would not break. It is excellent value and tastes just like the apple cider vinegar I used to purchase in Canada and that I loved. This is definitely a good quality product and I will purchase again.

This is a good product and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Very good for mixing with seedling soils.

When my old Samsung died, I needed a new mobile phone. I did a lot of research before reluctantly spending the money on this. One of the things that lead to my decision was the guaranteed 7 years of updates.

But after using it for awhile, it is over priced in my opinion. The camera is not very good. It takes mediocre photos. So many of the "features, " I don't even use.

Don't get fooled into buying this for all it's "features" - I regret spending so much money on this phone.

I purchased this as a gift for my "bajanaki" who likes to experiment with Tsipouro. In Greece, it seems gifts of clothing are often the type of gifts many will give, but I wanted something unique and that would be of interest.

The "Bajanaki" was thrilled with this product, and I'm a bit jealous as now I want 2 or 3 of these for myself! :D

It is well made, is not a "toy," and I am looking forward to some "Pepolayomeno" that my brother-in-law makes with this very nice barrel.

I am not always sure I get from Green Center what I ordered - when I have had Stuttgart onions in the past, I get round bulbs. What Green Center sent me were oval shaped bulbs - not the Stuttgart type I am used to.

But I did put them in the garden, and they are doing well, whatever variety they are. But I do not think they are truly Stuttgart variety, so I take off 2 stars. I have never in my life seen oval shaped Stuttgart onion sets - they are always round. So I am not sure if I actually received Stuttgart, and I doubt that I did. I think they sent me something else.

  • I found this to be a very nice Xinomavro that benefits from at least 30 minutes of decanting before tasting. Almost all Xinomavro wines really need at least 30 minutes or more to gently mix with air and oxygen to bring out their qualities.

If you taste this wine straight out of the bottle with no time given to let it get some oxygen, you may not like it - but truly you need to give this wine a chance to give the surface much time in the air.

This was not the best Xinomavro I have tasted, but it was very very good and enjoyable.

  • Excellent delivery, well packaged and good price. Of course, what to say about Jameson whiskey? Always good!

I will order from the same vendor again.

I have started the seeds - but it is not what I ordered. I ordered the Vilmorin cabbage seeds - 'de Brunsick' variety. What was sent to me, I am not sure - it appears to be a generic packaging (see photo) and I don't know what variety of cabbage seeds these are.

Hopefully they turn out to be what I wanted.

  • This brush is not as good as the old fashioned finger nail cleaning brushes that I used to use after a day of work on the farm or working on the car. It does not get under the finger nails as well, but it still does help.
