Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) splint, ideal aid for patients with ankle drop and hypotonia. Walking is not an automated process for those suffering from drop foot, requiring concentration to prevent falls on uneven surfaces. Often, during walking, the foot does not step with the heel first, but with the front part or the entire sole. A natural rolling motion of the foot is not possible with drop foot. Spastic paralysis obstructs the normal walking cycle. Without the splint, the swinging of the foot is performed by the so-called “sickle gait,” which can cause pain in the hip and pelvis.
