Reviews
This specific CPU cooler was purchased about 9 months ago and installed in a midi case which definitely cannot be considered remarkable in terms of design, especially regarding airflow capability.
It has been used on an 8-core older generation Intel (i7-5960x) and a 1st generation AMD Ryzen (r7-1800x). It performs very well with both, considering they have high Thermal Design Power (TDP) CPUs that require a lot of power as they increase clocks. Therefore, they tend to generate a significant increase in temperature, especially when overclocked (depending on the percentage of core usage).
In my opinion, it is one of the best single tower CPU air coolers on the market in terms of a combination of reliability, performance, quietness, build quality (+ fan), RAM clearance, and VRM motherboard cooling, as long as it receives good airflow from the front intake fans of the case.
Due to its size, it has the advantage of using the rear fan (exhaust in the case) as a second fan in a push-pull configuration.
Installation:
It generally does not fit in small cases. However, in most midi cases, it can be installed and there will be space for fan management on the top and rear, even with the cooler mounted on the case, thanks to its compact design (check the dimensions of the case compared to the full set of dimensions provided on the manufacturer's website and diagrams). You should not expect any issues even with bulky rear panels and I/O shields that many motherboards have (e.g. Asus B-450F, etc.).
The screwing of the screw that goes through the cooler for the final support of the cooler is indeed somewhat difficult, but the large magnetic screwdriver provided in the package and a little patience will help you finish relatively quickly.
The fan clips are somewhat unusual to attach (compared to other coolers), so there will be some, but not serious, inconvenience.
Thermal paste application: It requires a full spread - "credit card method" both on the bottom surface of the cooler and on the CPU in the case of installation on Ryzen - as stated in the manufacturer's instructions - which I did not notice/apply (see below). This is due to the convex cooler vs convex IHS surface, as I found out later. For Intel, the "pea/rice grain" method is sufficient as it tends to have a concave IHS (which may play a smaller role than attributed by various reviewers, see below).CPU temperatures:
In the few detailed reviews from testing sites, it is at least comparable to the significantly more expensive, bulkier, and noisier at high fan RPM, worse in terms of clearance in general, Noctua NH-D15 (1-3 Celsius difference, within the limits of statistical error). However, it cannot achieve a sudden large decrease in high temperature on its own (e.g. -10 Celsius) immediately, as theoretically seems to be achieved by the large dual tower Noctua or good liquid cooling.Personal experience with overclocked r7-1800x, 3.95 GHz all cores with PBO or DOCP on an Asus motherboard, overclocked RAM at 3200MHz, and enabled turbo 1-2 cores + c-states enabled. Conditions that greatly increase power supply to the CPU, and therefore temperature, with the Asus B450-F Gaming (which does not receive an award for its VRM):
In a moderately designed case for airflow (but with powerful fans, 3 front intake / 1 rear + 2 top exhaust), without proper application of thermal paste instructions, 25'-30' stress test with AIDA64, temperatures below 70 Celsius (66-69) 99% of the time (& 72 Celsius -75/76 max, for some sporadic seconds). Above 30', 69-72 Celsius. In other words, extremely satisfactory temperatures, considering that there is automatic factory cutting on the R7-1800X at 75 Celsius, which is rarely applied. Additionally, motherboard temps (=VRM temps) 52 Celsius - 55 max. In other words, very good, especially if you have B-450 motherboards with objectively worse VRM than X470/570.
(Note: the tests were performed with all relevant stress options enabled in the software, [excluding GPU & disks which are not necessary] + AVX/AVX2 instructions enabled in the advanced settings. Therefore, in the stress selection: CPU only, you will see much lower temperatures)In idle, with any application running in the background on Windows, below 30 (27-29) on the CPU after a few hours of use, leaving the PC simply open & VRM/motherboard around 30-33 Celsius. [You will not avoid the sudden increases that Ryzen makes even in relaxed use. But even then, you will not have more than 45-47 Celsius on the CPU]
The fan reaches up to 1320-1350 rpm max on this motherboard and is essentially silent due to good design & quality bearing, despite the turbo mode. With a - more powerful than the available - 140mm round frame fan, you may see even better results than the aforementioned, with an increase in noise at high RPMs, most likely.
In conclusion, this is an excellent single tower cooler, which in my opinion is worth purchasing

Did you find this review helpful?Completely silent, even at 100%, in a quiet room with closed windows.
If there is any other fan in the case (either graphics card or other), it will not surpass it in noise.
The volume is large, but the orientation is such that it does not obstruct the memories at all.
Attention, if you want to install any fans in the back and top of the case, install them before placing it, pass their cables, as well as the processor's power cable, from the power supply.Performance:
Installed on 3900x, in a fully ventilated mesh case (Coolermaster H500), at room temperatures ~20°C:In idle 30min, 35avg, 40max
In prolonged simple use 35min, 40avg, 50max
In prolonged gaming ~55avg, 65max
In prolonged rendering (100% usage of all cores) 72avg, 79max. (4.1Ghz all cores, ~1.34Vcore)All the above with settings (x570 aorus pro):
Bios vcore "normal"
C-states enabled
