  I recently bought it because my laptop has two USB ports. One of the two is USB 3.0. I plugged it into that one and tested it by connecting a mouse and other devices to all 4 ports. It works properly and reads the external hard drive in full functionality. I can also use the other 3 USB ports simultaneously. I find it great that it has 4 switches to turn off the USB ports that are not needed. It's worth its money, I highly recommend it!

  I have bought 2, one for more than a year and the other for months now.
  I have connected external hard drives, USB flash drives (from 16 to 64 GB).
  Almost always the ports are full.
  NO problem. The ports continue to work perfectly fine.
  The switches it has on each port are useful (I usually isolate the ones I don't use)
  P.S. Only an external DVD player couldn't play.
