Greater Creative Capability.
The Lumix G 42.5 mm f/1.7 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens from Panasonic is an 85 mm equivalent lens designed for the Micro Four Thirds system of mirrorless cameras.
An aspherical element is incorporated into the optical design, which helps control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and accurate rendering. The maximum aperture of f/1.7 is particularly beneficial for selective focus imagery and also aids in shooting in low-light conditions.
The rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces a smooth out-of-focus quality when shooting photos and movies with a shallow depth of field.
Complementing the optical attributes is a fast AF motor and internal focusing design, which provides smooth, silent, and responsive focusing performance for intuitive handling. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) benefits handheld use by compensating for the effects of camera shake for sharper imagery.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
I have been in the Micro Four Thirds system for several years, owning the Panasonic Lumix GX80 camera.
I have had this lens (Panasonic 42.5mm) for a while and I use it for both video and photography.
Video:
I mainly use it for b-roll in videos. Its bokeh is simply exceptional. The autofocus is completely silent and I would say very fast. I use the semi-automatic focus without any problems, but it requires a lot of attention when the lens is fully open at f/1.7 because the depth of field is very shallow. The lens has excellent color reproduction. I have applied the d-log profile to my camera and the footage is simply amazing. The lens has image stabilization, which works simultaneously with the camera's body stabilization, and the result is fantastic. The stabilization it provides makes it ideal even without a gimbal.
Photography:
I mainly use it for portraits and macro photography. The lens has superb color reproduction. Its sharpness is razor-sharp. The bokeh is wonderful, especially when fully open, but it is also very beautiful and pleasant even at f/4. The stabilization it provides allows you to take photos at very low shutter speeds. I have taken night photos at a speed of 1/10 without any issues! The manual focus works perfectly and the focus ring is large and smooth. I have also tested it for landscape photography with distant shots and I am very satisfied.
The weight of the lens is small and so is its size. As a portrait lens, it does not make the camera much bigger, but rather makes it look even more beautiful and professional. It comes with a pouch and lens hood, so you will only need a filter if you use one. The build quality is very good, and there are no switches on the lens except for the focus ring. I have the lens in black, and it looks professional and beautiful on my camera.
The lens is worth its price without a second thought, whether for video or photography.
To clarify, in the m4/3 system, the mm of the lenses correspond to twice the equivalent in full frame.
This means that this lens is 42.5mm X 2 = 85mm.
