In the Iliad and the Odyssey, Homer provides many interesting information about wines, cellars, and the thirst of his heroes; he even sang with such enthusiasm the praises of wine, that Horace named him vinosus Homerus. However, if we leave the generalities aside, only two famous wines appear in the Homeric epics: the wine of Maron and the Pramnian wine. Homer describes in detail the sensory characteristics of the first in the Odyssey; it is the very sweet, old, fragrant wine from Ismarus in Thrace that Maron, a priest of Apollo, offered to Odysseus as a gift of gratitude. The second wine is mentioned both in the Iliad and the Odyssey, but the poet does not provide any details about it - neither its characteristics nor the region of its production are described. Therefore, the reasonable question arises: why did the poet follow such a different approach in the only two wines mentioned in the verses? And a second question: were these two wines real or poetic creations? And furthermore, how were they made, what were their characteristics, how were they consumed, what do we know about the grape varieties and the regions of their production? These are some of the topics that I examined in a previous study; in this one, I will focus on Maron's wine from a different perspective..."
