Yes, it is a step or more above the cheap (relatively) Zooms. And you don't go back, only forward! If you can and are able. Having in the bag 10-18 & 17-135 STM, losing in framing convenience, I gained detail and sharpness. Being this 80mm on a crop body, I complement it with the 24mm f2.8 pancake - see 38mm and forward for new discoveries! :)
The best first lens after the kit. I suggest you learn to use the kit first for a long time, so you can really understand the difference!
I wanted something cheap and lightweight for my trips and vacations without having to carry my professional equipment. I happened to get it for 89 euros on sale, it was like robbing a church. For this money, one cannot have high expectations. Honest for its price, it can produce fantastic images. I permanently have it on my old 5D classic and it fits perfectly!
Perfect!! I am using it for amateur purposes, so I don't know much to say! However, my portraits definitely come out wonderfully
I will start by saying that for its price (89€), it is definitely the best available and even more so, it is an investment as this lens is compatible with full-frame cameras. It is small in size, so it fits in any bag, and it is quite fast in focusing. Its colors are good and its sharpness is quite good at 1.8 and improves as the aperture closes. The bokeh is very beautiful and improved compared to the previous version of the same lens. Some other improvements compared to the previous model are the build quality, which is much better, as well as the focusing speed and the minimum focusing distance, which is now around 35 centimeters compared to the previous model's 45 centimeters. I would say that it is the first lens that someone who is starting to get into photography should get, as well as someone who wants something that is immediate in a point and shoot phase.
Canon 50/1.8
Well.... the lens is plastic, small, and very lightweight - almost weightless.
Being plastic, it is naturally not waterproof.
The autofocus is "relatively fast" in good lighting conditions. In more challenging situations, even with the R5, it struggles to find focus and manual focusing may be required.
The images are "quite sharp" in normal conditions, and the lens produces beautiful portraits.
It is a good lens for street photography as it is almost 'invisible' on the DSLR body.
Overall, for the price it currently has (89€), it is a "must-have"!
In comparison, the 1.4/50 has a metal body and faster autofocus but also... roughly triple the price.
As for the 1.2/50, it exceeds two thousand euros significantly.

I am providing two samples from handheld indoor shots on the r5.
The sharpness is quite good in the center even at 1.8 (ISO 2000, 1/60 shutter speed).
It is an absolute VFM!
Of course, it does not have the highest sharpness, it is more noisy and has a slower focus than the kit lens, in some difficult conditions it can create chromatic aberration, but it "does not exist" for what it offers you in relation to its price. (I use it with the Canon EOS 800D)

The best lens for someone to experiment with for the first time with a fixed lens (for FF always). For Crop, it functions as an 80mm at f2.8. Still quite good for portraits or for more distant street photography. It is quite good regardless of price. Satisfactory focusing speed, good sharpness, good control in color aberration, satisfactory quality. It is worth its money.
Perfect if you are looking for a 50mm lens. You won't have to spend too much money and you will do your job very comfortably
Perhaps one of the best choices one can invest their money in. The lens is top-notch, get it without a second thought.

The best for the money!
I use it on the Canon 2000D for amateur use. Compared to the lens that comes with the camera, I saw a big difference. Very high clarity, lightweight, and quite detailed. I believe that in the price range, maybe even up to €200, from the research I have done, it may be among the top lenses.
Although it has a more robust construction than the Canon 50mm f/1.8 II, it has some small construction issues that you get used to relatively quickly, but you will always remember the convenience of the classic Nifty-fifty.
It has a short focus ring travel. It is stable, but if you shoot videos and use a wide aperture, fine-tuning can be a bit of a hassle.
Clearly quieter than its predecessor and naturally faster in focusing, and slightly better in low light conditions. The metal mount adds durability.
The 50mm lens is clearly a very good choice for both amateurs and professionals, and with f/1.8, you can have a decent entry into bokeh.

Value for money! It is definitely worth every penny and more! I believe it is the first lens that everyone should buy and it will make you fall in love with photography. The use of f/1.8 will make your life easier in difficult lighting situations. It is a lens that everyone should have.
For its price, it is a perfect lens!!!!! I have it in a crop body, so I would say it is not for general use.
Compared to the 18-135mm, it is slightly slower in focusing, very good in sharpness, a lightweight plastic lens,
and there is a big difference in image quality compared to the 18-135mm
Nifty fifty with the name. All amateur photographers should have a fifty lens for every use, and this one is the most value for money available.
An excellent lens and super value for money. I didn't expect it to be so good when I bought it. Overall, it is quite sharp and has a nice bokeh, but it does have some chromatic aberration, which you notice when zooming in on the bokeh. Nevertheless, as I mentioned before, it is worth its money.
Excellent lens for its price, great for portraits, has very good sharpness at f2.8 and above. The autofocus is fast with good lighting, but it slows down quite a bit in low light. Its only negative aspect is its autofocus
The king of portraits, excellent image quality, magical bokeh. Very reliable and impressive in night shots. It takes some time to learn how to handle it correctly if you are a beginner!
For its price, it is excellent. Obviously, it has a chaotic difference compared to the corresponding one of 1500 euros, but for its money, it is exceptional.
In my personal opinion, it is what someone needs to start their "photographic career".
Excellent auto-focus with all Canon cameras but also with mirror-less Sony (with an adapter, obviously).
If you want it for video, it is good only for stable (tripod) shots. In moving shots, handheld, even with stabilizer shots, the lens is not satisfactory in any case and absorbs the minimum movement in the image.
For those who are starting, it is a must-buy and has good resale value.
Excellent upgrade of the kit lens or the traveler lens (e.g. 18-200mm). As an amateur photographer, it is one of the first lenses I got, having previously only had an old Sigma 18-200. The result was that I ended up using this one for everything because the difference with the previous lens was huge. It is a very sharp lens and focuses quickly and accurately, as far as I can tell. I am in love with the colors it reproduces!! On the negative side, the build quality is not great. It doesn't bother me that it is plastic because it is small and not likely to hit anything. However, after a short period of time, I noticed a small spot on the external glass of the lens, but it doesn't affect the photos. It also doesn't come with a lens hood, but you can easily find one on eBay for about 1.5 euros (the original one costs 22 and there is no difference). The price is unbelievably low for what it offers! (those who get a prime lens for the first time will have the opportunity to "play" with the challenging but enjoyable wide aperture of 2.8 and below, e.g. f2, f1.8)
I initially use it for amateur purposes. I bought this lens 20 days ago (I only had the kit lens on the Canon 800D, 18-55). Of course, there is no comparison to the 18-55 lens. You can see a significant difference in image quality, in the so-called bokeh, especially in portraits taken in daylight (at the beach, countryside, etc).
Personally, I consider it quite noisy if you want to take a portrait in low light (so you lower the f-stop to 1.8) and it struggles with focusing. You will make several attempts to achieve the desired result.
For everyday use, it's okay, but if you want to shoot in low light, it's better to go for a lens with f 1.4.
Otherwise, it's okay and affordable.
I bought this specific lens because 1) I wanted a lens exclusively for taking portraits (face, full body), 2) I wanted it to be an affordable yet reputable solution, and 3) the comments here are particularly encouraging.
From the purchase until today, 4 months have passed during which this specific lens has proven to be an excellent investment for model photography - whether outdoors or in a studio, whether for face or full body shots, whether up close or from a distance.
Indeed, it has a sharpness issue at the first F values (1.8 to 2.2), but from there onwards, things improve significantly without losing the so-called bokeh effect. For example, in a recent outdoor photoshoot with natural lighting, at F 2.5 (..and shutter 1/2000, ISO 100 as I am mentioning), I was satisfied.
Of course, there are far better lenses for the same job, but they don't come at the same cost. For someone starting out (I am also taking my first steps), whether professionally or as a hobby, I highly recommend it.
This lens is what will lead them to the next 35, 50, or/and 85 with different costs and obviously different results.

Update 05/05/2021:
After intensive use for over a year and having the feeling that it was adequately protected in the bag, the lens broke - probably due to shocks. The camera and the lens showed proper focus, but the images were blurry.
At the service center, they discovered the problem inside my lens and told me that the cost of repair equals or exceeds the cost of buying a new one. So, without thinking twice, I bought it again. But this time, with more caution on my part.
The best value for money!! Very beautiful portraits and very good in low light conditions!! A must for every DSLR user
Amazing lens, I have been using it for 2 weeks now and I am more than satisfied, perfect for portraits even on the crop sensor camera that I have, great value for money.
The first lens I had bought... for portraits is very good, it has good sharpness, fast autofocus, and creates nice bokeh. I had tried it for "Street photography" with some good photos and results, but it requires some work there. Not recommended for Landscape. The 1.8 aperture is very helpful for night shots

I have had this lens for 1.5 years on a crop body! There may be some deviation due to the focal length (50 x 1.5 = 75) but the result is always amazing! It is clearly a value for money lens! Believe me, it has been through a lot of rough handling... And it doesn't show any signs of damage... I highly recommend it without hesitation!
