Description

The anniversary edition, celebrating fifty years of the innovative international bestseller that showed millions of readers how to make their lives interesting and creative by developing their hidden potential for Love. Most people, when they love, are unable to rise to the only level that truly matters: the level of love intertwined with maturity, self-awareness, and courage. As with any other art, the art of love requires practice and concentration, as well as genuine insight and understanding. In this classic book, The Art of Loving, renowned psychoanalyst and social thinker Erich Fromm explores love from all its sides and aspects—not only romantic love, which is imbued with so many misconceptions and high expectations, but also brotherly love, erotic love, parental love for their children, love for oneself, and love for God. "Erich Fromm is both a penetrating psychologist and a capable writer. His book has authority and straightforwardness, practicality and precision." Chicago Tribune "Every line is filled with common sense, humanity, and realism." Fortune Erich Fromm (1900-1980) emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1934, where he taught at Columbia University, Yale, and New York University. He wrote many books, including Escape from Freedom, Man for Himself, The Heart of Man, The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness, and To Have or to Be.

Very nice book by a conscious author who directs the reader towards our "Self" and not towards "You". It focuses on what each person can do to experience this feeling, rather than the idea of "meeting" or having the "love of your life" happen to you. The style and writing are a bit difficult and there are some slow parts, but it's worth it.
