  After many positive comments, I was curious to try it. The first time I tried it at a bar and my impressions were positive. Since then, I bought a bottle for the cold winter nights. Here is the strange thing, there were days when I really liked it and days when it didn't sit well with me, while at the same time I can't classify this drink as any kind of vermouth, whiskey, rum, or cognac. I don't know what's wrong, but this drink seems to work depending on the mood.

  I am a fan of whiskey, which of course I consider to be still the number one drink in the world for many reasons, but rum has climbed to second place. In recent years, I have started drinking quite a bit of rum. I have tried several and always in a brandy glass. So let's get to the evaluation for this particular rum that I am drinking. What can I say... it's an amazing rum. Out of all the ones I have tried, around 20, I have picked out 4. This one, El Dorado 15, Plantation 20, and Eminente Reserva 7 (try it and you will remember me!!). If it was a little less sweet, it would easily be the best, but it probably still is.

  My experience with rum was up until the cheap ones. They were all petroleum... I was always into Jack Daniel's in the winter and Disaronno in the summer. So when I heard Jack Sparrow saying that pirates drink rum because it's the only drink that no matter how much you drink, you'll still be standing, my friend and I decided to try a more expensive one. Enter Diplomatico. Unbelievable drink. You open the bottle and suddenly you find yourself in the Caribbean from the aroma. We put two large shot glasses in the freezer and drink from one shot. As soon as it goes down, you discover that it wasn't just a drink, but something divine. It leaves you with a feeling of relaxation, but not to the point of passing out. You are flooded with its aromas and taste. The rest is written by the more experienced ones. I believe that the ideal way is to have it neat in a chilled glass. Nothing to alter its taste and aroma.   I am not an expert in rum! I had drunk a few times in the past, but the classic ones, like Captain Morgan! Now I decided to start and after extensive research, I found out that it is by far one of the most popular rums in the global market!! It is the most popular for its price!
  I won't go into details about the taste, as I said, I am not an expert!
  So, I tried it, and it is amazing!! It is very pleasant to drink it straight, without burning your throat! Of course, I will try other rums in the category before settling down! But it sets the bar high, right from the start..

  P.S. A tip that a girl in a liquor store told me to try is to drink it straight, without ice, by cutting a slice of orange and rubbing it around the rim of the glass.. without squeezing juice into the glass. I tried it, and it really elevates the taste...

  If someone wants to start their taste journey in rum, they should start with Diplomatico. It is quite sweet, which may concern those who prefer a "harder" drink, as its sweetness may not appeal to everyone.
  Aromas and flavors of chocolate, caramel with hints of orange, cocoa, and spices. Intense aftertaste and rich body. Excellent value for money as you can enjoy an exceptional drink for around €38.
  Without wanting to diminish its value, I believe it is a step below El Dorado 15yo and Plantation 20th Anniversary, always keeping in mind that taste is subjective!

  I believe that subjectivity plays a big role in drinks, and what may be ideal for me may be completely indifferent to someone else.
  Having said that, I consider this rum to be the best entry into the world of fine drinks in this category.
  I do not diminish it in any way, as I often mentally compare it to the taste of more expensive or sophisticated options to see if they capture what Diplomatico captures.
  Of course, it is best enjoyed neat with 2 drops of bottled water, in my opinion, to enhance the subtle flavors of spices and fruits (I do not have such a sensitive palate).
  I have other rums that I may enjoy just as much, but I always come back to this one.

  However, if someone wants to elevate the taste experience to something different, they should try putting a small piece of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) in their mouth, let it melt in the oral cavity for a while, add a sip of this nectar, and elevate the blend to the palate!

  I am not a rum expert, my obsession is bourbon, so I will give my opinion as a simple drinker.

  I paired it with a Cohiba Siglo 1 cigar and the combination was excellent.

  It is quite sweet for a rum (40g per liter), but quite flavorful with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and spices.

  I recommend drinking it neat and not on the rocks as it will alter the flavors quite a bit.

  Summary - it's pretty good, but I can't say I was blown away, I have had better. But it was okay!

  Incredible value for money premium rum. Notes of orange and spices. Two ways to drink it: 1. Neat in frozen shots. 2. In a brandy or whiskey glass, neat or with just a small ice cube - it's a shame to dilute it too much and lose the aromas. In the second way, what elevates it: inside the glass, an orange peel and a flame from a lighter to burn the orange peel on the rim of the glass....elevation!
