A theatrical monologue set in a small town in Crete, early 1980s, written specifically for the Athens Epidaurus Festival by Michalis Albatis. According to the author, "from the words krypton and gamein, the title of the work Kryptogama refers to hidden fertilization. This is how the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus named algae, fungi, bryophytes, and pteridophytes, as the absence of flowers, fruits, and seeds made their mode of reproduction enigmatic. However, there are also human beings who exude the same enigma, with unclear classification among the genera, with a misty role in the flow of evolution. Organisms that, in order to survive, mimic their peers in manners, attire, language, forced to bloom only in the dark, filling their lungs with night. This is how they live, holding their breath for years, but if their air runs out and they are forced to emerge violently into the light, ignition is inevitable."
