Appeals to Philhellenes for support of the Struggle, poems praising the bravery of Greek men and women in the great battles of '21, the first Greek play on the theme of the Revolution and specifically the exodus of Messolonghi, the first metrical chronicle of the uprising in Crete, the participation of women in the uprising in various regions, the emergence of female fighters such as Gouraina, as well as poems celebrating the anniversary in the early years of the free state, are some of the themes of political texts, poems, plays, or prose by 19th-century Greek women around the major event of the Struggle for freedom. This anthology is an attempt to highlight the work related to the Revolution of 1821 by these mostly forgotten women, in which their collective consciousness is certified. In these texts, female heroism is depicted in all its forms: fighting heroism, heroism of women victims, and heroism of women who help in the background with the preparation of the Struggle. The edition is complemented by the work-biographies of the creators, unknown to us today, in an effort to highlight their own, silenced, voice as an important piece in the scholarship of the 19th century.
