Following the events of the first volume, we return to a happier time in Hannah's past. Dr. Hannah Curtis is seven years old and adores her father.

With her sister away, she goes to sleep dreaming of the presents she will open in the morning, unaware of the events about to unfold. However, Hannah is resourceful and has help from within, and when she discovers what is really happening, she runs to the only place she has been told not to go, to the Fracture itself.
