ZTE new generation 5G Outdoor CPE MC889
- Ushering in a new era of 5G with the new generation Snapdragon X62 platform
- High-quality signal and optimal performance
- Easy and smooth installation
- Compact size and lightweight
The next-generation Snapdragon X62 platform with advanced 4nm technology supports the 3GPP Release 16 standard. The processing power of the processor is upgraded and the speed is improved overall, ushering in a new era of 5G.
The support of advanced carrier aggregation (CA) technology of the 5G NR network significantly improves spectrum utilization, brings higher user data rates, lower latency, higher capacity, more reliable network service, and better performance. At the same time, low-frequency ENDC technology is supported to improve coverage. Signal transmission is broader and can reach further in suburban, rural, and remote areas. The MC889 truly leverages the advantages of wide coverage and fast speeds of 5G signals, allowing users to enjoy a fast internet experience anytime and anywhere. At the same time, it supports LTE 4G Cat16 1.0Gbps rate, which is also very fast.
It features an Omni-directional high-gain antenna of up to 4dBi. ZTE's "Smart ANT" algorithm allows the CPE to independently select the best quality signal, ensuring high-speed 360° connection to the CPE.

Coming from the TP-LINK MR600 (which is a basic 4G router for simple use) and then from the ZTE MC888pro, the difference with the new router is huge. It is much more stable, with a better UI and obviously fewer bugs than the MC888pro.
In terms of speeds, the difference is impressive: from 150-200Mbps download I am now consistently at 400+Mbps down, although the upload remains low at 15Mbps. Even after disabling Mobile Security, I did not see any noticeable change in performance. Certainly, the external antenna plays a big role, as it helps to catch the optimal signal point. For comparison, at the same spot the iPhone 16 Pro Max gets about 100Mbps down and 7-10Mbps up.
A very useful feature is the 10-meter power-over-ethernet cable, which allows you to place the router even on the roof without needing to search for outlets. The T3000 proves to be extremely reliable, as it has not dropped even once, despite supporting over 30 Wi-Fi devices simultaneously.
Negatives
There is no option to change DNS, which is limiting.
The Band Locking has quite a few bugs and often requires a factory reset to work properly.
@JohnXeon Since I am facing an issue with torrents when you mention "For torrent users enable TCP connection only, uTP must be off." are you referring to a setting in ZTE? I searched and did not find anything like that in the menus. If you can answer me, you will save me.
The MC889 is very stable! Contrary to what the friend wrote in the previous review, the modem has no problem no matter how heavy the workload is. The issue is with the cosmote sim when mobile security is activated, under heavy workload it locks the sim and the router freezes. If you go to mycosmote and deactivate mobile security for this connection, the problem will not occur again.
For torrent users, through the application you use to download, activate only TCP connection, uTP must be off.
The Outdoor unit (MC889) sticks or restarts on its own, especially under workload. When it sticks, it does not recover on its own unless I disconnect it from the power first
