  Purchased December 24, Production 28th week of 2024 (somewhere in July) suffers from peeling coating parts from the boiler. Google: Gaggia Classic Boilergate. One year later, in Greece we are still selling the defective models.

  GAGGIA is also to blame, which for the 23 model (known problematic), and the 2 of 24 (the first in some countries went WITHOUT coating and the E24 that was recently released with a brass boiler) uses the same model code (R19481).

  But also the Greek distributor who renamed it V24 to make you think it is the E24 while in reality it is the defective model with the peeling boiler). Not even the model that went to "serious" countries, with an aluminum boiler without coating as a middle solution. No. In Greece, they sell whatever cannot be sold abroad, and they tell you to give 450 euros and then go figure it out.

  When the E24 model is released in Greece, it might be worth looking at Gaggia Classic, until then stay away

  I made the purchase on 03/02/2023 and after a few days, I read about the issue that the entire "Boilergate" series has. I checked to see if it was happening to me as well, and unfortunately, the inner coating in the boiler is peeling off and falling into the coffee.

  The problem is recognized by Gaggia with a relevant announcement they have made, as well as by Eurogat, which is the official service in Greece.

  Honestly, don't bother buying it. I was lucky enough to get my money back.

  Update 8-03-24. After many times of using the machine with blind and steam and high pressure, I cleaned it with the company's liquid and it doesn't produce anything. I tested it for a while and the water comes out clean, obviously I am one of the lucky ones.
  Spring at 9 BAR, blind portafilter and flow regulator on the pump and you're ready, if you feel like upgrading to PID it's good but even without PID you learn the machine and it makes great coffee, all for 380.
  Now the water doesn't come into contact with the aluminum anymore, but I don't know how good the new coating that Grandma put on is. Just trust it and I have given it a star.
  Looking for the boilergate mentioned by the friend below, I was very disappointed. I tried mine and it didn't come out, but keep in mind that I haven't worked with steam yet or cleaned it. Once again, the Italians have fooled us, too bad because I trusted them. I'm going to Eurogat to give it back to them as it is and I'm going for a Silvia.

  After approximately 25 days of technical inspection (I wanted to know what they were checking for so long), I still don't have the machine in my hands, nor any update on what is going to happen. And it seems that Gaggia has no intention (through its representatives) to acknowledge the technical error in the construction of the Evo boiler, by recalling the machines and finding a viable and functional solution to the problem that has arisen. The worst part is that they continue to sell this model on the market without any sense of guilt from the Italian company. I sincerely regret buying this particular machine and feel like I wasted 400€. That's my personal experience, and I will end the topic here. Anyone who wants to learn more can visit the Reddit page (r/gaggiaclassic) or the Gaggia Classic Facebook group.
  P.S.: Finally, after about a month, they informed me that the machine cannot be repaired (why, I wonder?) and they refunded my money. Because I suspect that our machines are being resold, I am providing here the serial number of mine (which is stuck on the bottom of the machine) in case it ends up in the hands of an unsuspecting customer:

  - - - IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/2/2024 - - -
  Unfortunately, I am in the unpleasant position to report that I have also fallen victim to the #boilergate (Google it to see what exactly is happening or visit /r/gaggiaclassic). Like many other users worldwide, I have encountered a faulty coating on the boiler, which started peeling off from the first weeks of use, leaving small black marks (see photo) in the cup either through the brew group or the steam wand. I have informed the authorized dealer (Eurogat) and I am waiting for their response and the options they have to offer. I want to note that from day one, I have been using filtered water (four-stage filtration) from well-known and reputable filters on the market. I mention this to eliminate any suspicion that the water quality might be the cause. But even if it were, it is not justified for this to happen within a few weeks of using the machine. Also, I have not descaled it yet. I mention this for the most skeptical ones. Of course, I have stopped using it as no one knows the level of danger when consuming these coating particles. I am very disappointed with the whole situation created by a supposedly serious company with a long history and tradition in coffee machine manufacturing.
  Unfortunately, I have to give it a one-star rating until the situation becomes clear and we see what will happen to all of us who have invested a considerable amount, in difficult times, in a machine that is currently unsuitable for use and simply decorates the kitchen counter.

  - - - INITIAL REVIEW - - -
  I purchased it for €380 during the Black Friday period, and my review will be based on this price. Since there are countless reviews for this machine in previous generations (2018/19), including mine, I don't want to repeat the same things over and over again. I will only focus on the differences that the Classic Evo Pro 2023 has compared to the Classic Pro 2018/19.
  The first and main difference is in the group head, which is now entirely made of stainless steel and not chrome-plated brass like the old one. The group head no longer has the harmful chrome plating that would wear off after a while and is now clean brass, as you can see in the photos I posted. The exterior casing is also stainless steel now. The shower holder is still made of stainless steel, as it first appeared in the New Classic Pro 2019 (in 2018 and before, it was still made of aluminum). Lastly, the boiler, although made of aluminum (why, Gaggia?), now has a food-grade non-stick coating internally for more protection against salts and, consequently, a longer lifespan, as claimed by the company itself.
  That's about the differences.
  Now, regarding the quality of the coffee it produces, it continues to be one of the top machines (if not the best) in this price range. In my review of the previous model (2018/19), I mentioned the issue it had with temperature instability due to the small boiler and lack of PID. However, this is something that has improved significantly in the Evo with all these small upgrades that Gaggia has brought. I also noticed that compared to previous generations, the thermostat has smaller tolerances (the so-called temp surf) and maintains the correct temperature in the boiler more easily without boiling the water when it is left on standby for a long time. It also activates faster to bring the water temperature to the right levels for extraction. I don't know how Gaggia managed to achieve this, but it impressed me, so I mention it.
  To conclude, I immediately proceeded with the basic upgrades (changing the OPV spring to 9 bar and using the IMS competition basket + puck screen), and the experience has improved significantly. I didn't change the shower screen with the IMS one because, on the one hand, the original shower screen is now quite good and distributes the water very well, and on the other hand, it doesn't play such a big role if you use a puck screen inside the basket like I do. Of course, not all of the above improvements are necessary, but for someone who has a good grinder and, of course, the willingness to get involved, it is truly worth it. I mainly use medium and medium-dark roast coffees from various micro-roasters with 1-2 weeks of roast date. The result I get in the cup is almost always more than satisfactory. I won't go through the process of spending additional money on upgrades in the future, such as PID, pressure gauge, dimmer, or gaggiuino, as the taste result satisfies me to a large extent as it is. Now, if my taste preferences and requirements change later on, it is most likely that I will go for an HX machine with flow control, PID, adjustable OPV, and many other features, which will be the endgame for me personally.
  One thing is for sure, Gaggia is a well-built machine with quality materials, and it is now made in Italy, with upgrade possibilities in all areas (taste, appearance, practicality). Additionally, there is a huge support community on social media, both in terms of knowledge and spare parts.

  Unfortunately, I am also a victim of boilergate where pieces of plastic come off and fall into the water. I have returned it.

  I got it after a lot of research comparing automatic and non-automatic ones. I ended up with this one because of its ability to experiment with the times and make the coffee you want. From the first coffee, it made it much better than outside (I compare it with coffee island the same variety) and without having experience in making espresso. The reviews that said that in this price range it is considered one of the best choices were not wrong. I combined it with the Sage The Smart Grinder pro with a setting at 6 and it made an excellent espresso by choosing a double dose. It was so strong with rich body and aroma that it needed dilution. If you have doubts about whether a manual one is a hassle, believe me, this one is not. Finally, the difference with the previous generation is that non-carcinogenic materials are used for the health of the workers during its construction and premium portafilter.

  P.S. Sometimes you need to hold the push button for ~1 second and not less for the light to turn on and the board to be powered. It is not defective if it does this to you, I returned it to the official representative and they told me that it works as expected. And indeed, after 2 months I have no issues with it.
