The disk I received was manufactured in 2017! It died immediately when I tried to write something. After contacting WD, they clearly told me that such old disks should not be sold due to their age and even with the extended warranty provided by WD (3->4/5 years), they cannot be covered. WD recommended me to buy from certified representatives if I want support, the official list is here: https://www.westerndigital.com/company/distributors
It concerns the product: Western Digital Purple 4TB SATA 6Gb/s Surveillance HD (WD40PURZ).
For about half a year (165 days according to HD Sentinel Pro), the disk was working, mostly for making backups from other disks.
Suddenly one evening in June '23, I noticed that I had lost it.
On my PC, I have HD Sentinel Pro and until that moment, everything was showing perfectly until it started losing speed and disappearing from the system, and then it would start again and I would see it again, and then it would lose speed and poof, it would disappear from the system. To make a long story short, the disk had some issues with its power until it completely disappeared, along with everything I had inside.
Of course, because I have learned my lesson, I made sure to copy everything to two other disks, so I am just mourning the disk because it's a shame that it only worked for 6 months.
The funny thing is that it says "Designed for 24 X 7 systems" on the disk.
There is no need for me to elaborate on a product that, as someone else who used it for simple backup said, failed quickly. And not just within 3 years, but within a year and a half for me. Permanently connected to a docking station that was always turned off and only opened when I did a backup, i.e. twice a month. We're talking about a tragic performance for a disk that in its description "persuades" potential buyers with its "durability over time". Tragic. Avoid it and go straight to WD black or an SSD Nvme with a case. Any other solution ultimately makes no sense.
Economical storage without speed requirements but with durability over time. It seems like the most convenient option at a low price for a branded disk.
I bought it on sale for around 50 euros, down from its average price of 90 euros, but I didn't notice that it was a refurbished product. Luckily, so far it hasn't had any issues after two months of use.
Guys, this thing about the 3 years is true... don't trust him... :( And me too, somewhere there, he went close and spat... and I only used it for backup photos on a USB and I would only open it to transfer the photos and videos and then close it...
Perhaps it was a coincidence, but it burned out after 3 years and 2 months. That is, shortly after the warranty expired. It was working 24/7 on an NVR recorder.

24/7 operation on NVR for the past 3 years.
Reliable with minimal noise, even though mechanical. I recommend it!
I have been using WD PURPLE for many years.
I put them in DVR recorders (that's why they are made for).
Simply flawless. I tested a couple of them after 3 years of 24/7 operation... they are in perfect health with ZERO bad sectors.
There is a bit of noise, but it also depends on the way the recorder works.
I got him for data backup even though he is recommended for security cameras. He is perfect for the job I do! Now he has dropped 15 euros since I got him. So he is definitely worth it! It is known that WD disks are quiet and reliable...
The PURPLE series is usually for recorders for cameras, I am satisfied because as long as I put the regular ones in the recorder, they would burn
I have him for 9 months
Very good, without a doubt. He is neither slow nor fast. (GOOD +)
Just what you need for storing files (games, movies, images, music)
He is worth his money.
If you want to have a 50% faster boot up, I recommend combining him with an SSD.
In my opinion, if you have the luxury to get an SSD just for Windows and have him for the rest, go for it. Now if you don't... Don't worry, he will do his job perfectly!!!!
Astounding!!! Very fast indeed, I think I don't have a hard disk!! Lightning-fast in writing, storage, etc... I highly recommend it, plenty of space 987GB guys give 10 euros more and get this one, it's truly worth it!!
