Picture, sound, design are fine for its price. Otherwise, the Philips is terrible functionally. Slow and difficult to use. It shows connection problems both with the cable and with the wifi. It has issues with the Netflix app, it doesn't open many times, I had to reset it to factory settings for it to work.
After 3-4 months, it constantly has issues, it shuts down on its own, it turns on by itself, it freezes, the ampilight plays light effects on its own for no reason on a closed TV! I wish I could return it, but the store I bought it from in Germany does not offer replacement or repair! At the certified repair shop, they only solve the problem through email and it gets fixed for about 2 days... and then it happens again!
The purchase of this specific television was truly the best purchase of at least the past year. The picture quality is incredibly good and the backlighting, not only gives the illusion of a larger screen, but also relaxes the eyes, making it very enjoyable to watch a long program. The choice of inches was made due to limited space, however, if it allowed spatially, I would have chosen a larger one for even better results. The build quality is amazing, as it is a sturdy construction and even the legs are metallic. The sound is not bad, it could just be much better. It was worth every penny and more!
I had a previous model of Philips with ambilight.
The purchase I made was exactly what I expected!
Very good performance in terms of clarity and sound!
After thorough research on various consumer forums and without having direct contact with a showroom, I ended up with the Phillips 43PUS8118/12. (In my market research, I ended up on websupplies, which provided excellent service.) Its use is for the bedroom. At first glance, it impresses with its elegant and high-quality appearance. The brightness of the image, whether in free or subscription-based resolution channels, does not strain the eyes. When watching Netflix in 4K resolution, the image is outstanding and can compete with more expensive models in the same category of competition (only an expert will notice the difference in black images, such as Oled or mini led). The Ambilight feature makes it unique, creating a harmonious and relaxing experience for the eyes. I did not notice any distortion in the image from any viewing angle. The smart features work smoothly without any glitches, and the connection via Bluetooth and hotspot is immediate. The remote control is simple and minimalistic, with basic functions that make it ergonomic, and it responds instantly to voice commands, as long as you speak in clear Greek! The sound is quite good for its size, but since I am a lover of high-quality sound and was looking for something more, I upgraded it with the affordable JBL cinema SB120 soundbar (purchased from Kotsovolos), which works perfectly using only the TV remote control. It connects with an HDMI cable provided with the soundbar. (If someone has the opportunity for this affordable upgrade, it is definitely worth it.) As for gaming, I own a Nintendo Switch, which has excellent graphics and does not lag anywhere!
As for the downsides, I would have preferred an Android operating system, and also a refresh rate above 100Hz.
I believe that it is more than just value for money! I would definitely buy it again
Perhaps the best for gaming at the 400 euros I bought it with the quality of Philips. Ambilight is everything. It lacks in the operating system, but for someone who has an android box, it's fine.
The 50'' was purchased on sale for 399€. At this price, it was truly a bargain.
The picture and sound are very good. Discreet design with a very thin frame.
The Ambilight it has is impressive, but there needs to be a smooth wall behind it at a distance of about 20 centimeters for it to work properly. It makes a difference in the experience, but personally, I could do without it.
Something very important that anyone interested should pay attention to:
The TV does NOT have Android operating system. It has a custom Linux OS from Philips, called SAPHI. This means that you cannot install other applications apart from the pre-installed ones (you won't find Google Play Store, etc.). In the supported apps, there isn't even Disney+. Only Netflix and Prime from the well-known ones. The other apps it has are almost all irrelevant, they don't work or require a subscription/account. Generally useless.
It is a one-way street to buy Chromecast with Google TV, FireStick, or some other equivalent if you want Android app support.
The positives of the SAPHI operating system are its speed and simplicity. So I would recommend using it for TV and Netflix, and for anything else, permanently connect it to one of the 3 HDMI ports with one of the aforementioned smart TV sticks (personally, I recommend Chromecast with Google TV, which works great and doesn't hold back on 4K).
Because of the above, which personally forced me to spend an additional 50€ to have Android, I give it 4 stars.
