Description

Ranking in Thebes. Transfer to Chios. And then a mission to Oinousses. At the eastern pin of the map. A breath away from the Greek-Turkish border. In combat positions. With loaded weapons. Ready - supposedly - to kill each other.

The journey In the Land of Jose narrates in the first person the tragicomic adventures of a soldier struggling to survive the endless hardships and challenges of military life: confinement, deprivation of flesh, the German, insomnia, the army-obsessed officers, the loneliness of a dead citizen stoically awaiting his resurrection. During his wanderings in units of modern undesirables, the khaki hero also denounces the army's wrongdoings: nepotism, the crazy papers, poor training, homophobia, sexism, the hostility towards anything that deviates from the conservative totem of the white straight Christian Orthodox Greek. He criticizes what troubles the soldiers and the country. What makes the service a "usefully useless" experience. Useful as a collection of experiences. Useless in terms of fulfilling its purpose.

This military testimony is intended for those discharged who want to touch their past. For those new recruits who want to gauge their future. For those waiting outside for them to return. For those, both in and out of uniform, who believe it is time to talk about how the army will stop eating its children.

One of the worst books I have ever read. It's not funny, it's not educational, it's boring... Basically, it's as boring as military service. Okay, author, we get it, you had a bad time in the army... We understood... That doesn't give you the right to constantly badmouth people. Unacceptable in every way.

An amazing book that perfectly depicts the Greek army and more. The magic of it is to transport you into the protagonist's situations while at the same time you yourself act and experience as if someone is filming and serving you another KSF at the end of the day with the sunset.

I threw it in the trash, a waste of time and a half.
