On the positive side, the simple operation, relatively comfortable in hand, the large screen. On the negative side, which I would say are many after two months of use, the battery lasts two weeks at most; I thought from what I heard that it would easily last 20 days. (The 6x pro I had lasted 15-16 months.) I do 5-6 workouts a week and have everything open as I had it on Garmin. After the first few days of use, it decided not to connect to any heart rate strap or at least not to read them correctly, showing 180-200 beats during relaxation. Even with its own sensor, it showed the same. It fixed itself after I had tried everything. Once it was fixed, the infrared that measures heart rate, HRV, etc. stopped working; it simply measured nothing. It started working again with a restart. During a mountain workout, it did laps on its own at irregular intervals because that’s what it wanted! I created other mountain workout screens, and only then did it recover. Of course, I hadn’t activated auto lap. Another disadvantage is that for each workout, it lets you create up to 4 screens, which I think is a silly limitation. The price, €450 compared to Garmin, is reasonable, but if these teething problems don’t get fixed with an update, then the noise for another Suunto compared to the past is unjustified.
I've been a holder of the vertical for a few months now. My previous watch was the Suunto Race, which was very good as well, but I was a bit put off by the all-black color and gave it away.
In general, it does all the basics very well, excellent GPS, a heart rate monitor that works flawlessly for me even during intense interval running workouts, though it was a bit off during weight training!! Good maps, not with the details of Garmin, the necessary smartwatch features, and most importantly, a battery that you forget to charge, especially if you take advantage of the solar charging that essentially keeps the battery stable. Minimum of 15 days of use with 4 workouts a week and all-day use even while sleeping. During a 1:35 minute run, I lost 2% battery when on the Epix I was wearing on the other hand, the battery dropped by 12%.
Finally, the app has everything you need for settings, to create interval workouts, to create routes using the map, and generally has many settings for most of what you need.
In conclusion, it doesn’t have everything that a comparable Garmin has, like the Fenix 7x, but basically, 95% of users don’t need those extras, but it has the essentials for a proper user experience.
One of the best watches I have ever worn
Owner of Suunto 9 Baro before, after 2 months of use I have to say that:
Very good GPS, which is evident in swimming, very good battery and screen, easy menu, maps, and good Suunto application.
If someone wants it for sports, it is one of the best.
As a smartwatch, I would not recommend it as there are some missing features such as music storage despite the good memory (32GB).
