It protects the bottom surface of the pizza from burning. The pizza does require more time to cook with indirect heat. Expected. The problem with BBQs is that the top surface of the pizza remains somewhat undercooked - the cheese melts but it doesn't create a crispy crust - at least until the bottom of the pizza starts to blacken. The product is excellent, but I recommend that to bake nice pizzas, you abandon the stone slabs and buy a gas grill SPECIFIC for pizzas...
The stones and their quality are very good, but the size is for individual pizza. I didn't notice at first that it is so small, that's why only 3 stars. The stone is really small and even though it has 2 pieces, it delays you a lot as you have to make individual pizzas on a night with friends. If the pizza comes out slightly larger in diameter, it will turn out like Dali's clocks.
Both fit inside the Napoleon TravelQ, they are slightly larger than a personal pizza and slightly smaller than a regular one (I think it corresponds to about a 6-slice pizza). The pizza cooks very nicely with a crispy crust!

I have used them and enjoyed them very much, and they are a tool that doesn't get damaged with use!
The only thing you need is to have the stainless steel spatula (e.g. Napoleon 70003) with you to transfer the fresh dough onto the stone that is already inside the barbecue and burning. The spatula really helps so that the hands don't get burned.
