Excellent machine. It does what it says it does. It is not fully automatic, but it is considered an assisted manual espresso machine with a grinder. Let's look at the three parts separately.
The grinder works exceptionally well, with plenty of options. Usually, the concern with all-in-one machines is whether the grinder is sufficient. Fortunately, the grinder grinds finely enough (if needed), and if we want, we can open the top lid and place it in an even finer setting. To give you an idea, so far, in a specialty cafe, I had to set it to 4 (1 being the finest), without adjusting the head (as stated in the manual, within warranty).
The assisted quantity and tamping function on the portafilter work as promised by the machine. The tamping force is specific, with a uniform tamp, and indeed, the quantity in the portafilter's double basket is usually 17-19g. Dialing in different coffees is generally easy, with 1-2 coffees being sacrificed but without going in blind (short or long extraction until you find the right one).
In case someone wants to bypass this assisted tamping stage and do it themselves externally, when removing the portafilter from the grinder's position, they should use the so-called the-dosing-funnel of the company to avoid "dirtying" and losing the dose during removal. Finally, regarding the extraction, the bars are indeed 9 during extraction. As many as needed for a smooth extraction and to avoid channeling. The pre-infusion, which can be done for as long as desired, is very important, and the temperature is also adjustable accordingly.
Overall, the build quality of the machine is excellent, quite compact (compared to the fully automatic Naviglio Deluxe by Gaggia that I had), and anyone who wants to see all its capabilities should search for its detailed user manual.
