The largest backpack in the Jääkäri family, with a capacity of approximately 55 liters. Based on the Border Patrol backpack originally designed for the Finnish Border Guard in the 1980s. Large enough for multi-day hikes, but can be compressed into a compact daypack if needed. The PALS attachment system offers great expandability outward when you need it. The generous thermoformed shoulder straps and padded hip belt, combined with an internal aluminum tubular frame, allow the Jääkäri L to comfortably carry heavy and unwieldy loads.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
Amazing build quality.
Incredibly modular, as it has MOLLE everywhere, so you can create a different pack every day according to your needs.
Even more amazing is that the hip belt is detachable and can be used independently as a battle belt or a lightweight way to carry essentials without needing a large backpack. For example, you can put a water bottle, a first aid kit, a pouch with essentials on it and go for a short hike. Later, you can attach it to the rest and continue the long journey.
It has an internal frame that can be removed if you want, as well as the "lid". If you remove all of these (frame, lid, hip belt) suddenly you have a very lightweight backpack.
Regarding the size (L) I think it's nice because you can use it from a day hike by loading it a little, without any pouches, to a multi-day hike by adding a sleeping pad, sleeping bag, 12L pouches, etc.
Because it is military, be prepared: it does not have pockets for a thermos/water bottle on the sides. You will either need to attach the corresponding MOLLE pouch, or you will have to carry your water from the inside. Of course, it also has a compartment and hole for a Camelback.
I have it for a few months (not years), but I hope that after years I can come back and write that everything is still perfect. At least that's what everyone who has had it for years says.
