Performance:
As a holder of the game on PC, I will admit that the port is superior in terms of performance compared to the PC. The fact that I can play for over two hours on the 2019 Switch edition at full brightness and sound and only used 40% battery makes it one of the lightest 3D games on the console with stable performance without any weird stuttering even in battles where a lot is happening simultaneously.
Gameplay:
It is quite an old game and most people who have bought it already know it roughly, personally for me I wouldn’t classify it as the best game even for that time, but it is one of the better games in this price range and in the hack n slash category. Besides that, I find it more appealing to play Nier on the go rather than when I’m on PC, the controls are good without delays. As for how many hours you can dedicate, I would say a few dozen especially if you want to do everything.
Negatives:
The port was done recently, the only thing I was asking for, which I had a complaint about on PC, is auto saving; one time I forgot to save as I usually do before every transportation and poof, almost 2 hours of gameplay lost because the Switch threw me an error.
It’s a shame to go through a loading screen and not have auto save.
The world building is somewhat "empty," you won’t see any amazing places that will stick in your memory and beyond that, you will see the same points many times due to the story.
Conclusion, aside from the 2-3 bad points I mentioned, I have nothing else to say, it is relatively a very good game that is worth having in your collection, the money spent will be more than justified with the amount of playtime it offers. It has a wonderful story and music, while the animations during battles have nothing to envy from recent titles. The characters have interesting stories so that you want to listen to them and help them, resulting in wanting to play and explore more.
What can one say about this game! Graphics at the limits of the Switch, excellent port. Classic Platinum gameplay, reminiscent of Astral Chain, you can control two things at the same time (player + assistant). The music, epic. The story, on another level!
It's a game that you have to finish several times to experience the full experience. The minimum is 3, but after the third, you don't stop. It's not boring, maybe a little on the second playthrough, but it doesn't make you replay the exact same things.
Overall, it was a unique experience. Gameplay time is approximately 50 hours.
What should you say first about this masterpiece...
As the Nier Automata's reputation is well-known, I will comment on the port for the Switch, which was released recently.
The frame rate, performance, and overall feel of the game in handheld mode (Switch Lite) are particularly satisfying. There has been good optimization, while maintaining a surprisingly good graphic quality. The shadows, reflections, and textures are unexpectedly good, as well as the particle effects. Although it is now a 7-year-old game, it looks wonderful on the Switch's small 720p screen.
I found the triggers on the Lite a bit uncomfortable, since you have to use them quite a lot, and if you have large hands, it can be a bit difficult. This is not a weakness of the game obviously, I just mention it for people who also plan to get it on the Lite.
In general, I would recommend buying it physically, as it also has a nice artwork on the other side of the cover. If you are afraid that the Switch will "undermine" the Nier experience, you are making a big mistake, as it has nothing to envy from console versions.
It is a masterpiece that should not be missing from anyone who is even slightly interested in games, the only prerequisite is to have a good command of English because the truth is that it requires some research.
