Description
Through a series of secret agreements, the great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the Austrian doctor Josef Breuer, one of the fathers of psychoanalysis, meet in 19th-century Vienna in an inspired process of dual psychotherapy. In this adventure of existential search involving two unique individuals, a young intern named Sigmund Freud, a tempestuous woman idolized by poets and psychiatrists, Lou Salome, and a captivating patient, Anna O., who haunts the soul of her doctor, are also involved.
The famous psychiatrist Irvin D. Yalom invents in this novel the meeting of two historical figures in the metropolis of intellectual ferment of the 19th century, Vienna, offering an interpretative version of the birth of psychotherapy and its relationship with existential philosophy. The psychotherapeutic adventure that unfolds is breathtaking as it reveals step by step the healing power of a true relationship.
"The new anniversary edition, on the occasion of the ten years since the book's first release in Greece, contains an afterword with two recently discovered letters and a commentary by Irvin Yalom, where it is proven that the fictional meeting of Nietzsche, Breuer, and Freud could indeed have taken place and where reality comes to confirm the fiction."

A masterpiece by Yalom, an author who never ceases to surprise us with his vivid description and charming characters. Perhaps only Nietzsche's portrayal made him slightly more "sensitive" than in reality. A book that everyone should have read, about a personality that indelibly marked the course of human thought.
