Chania, today.
At the Holy Monastery of Panagia Akrotiriani, art conservator Stavros Vegrakis discovers a masterful and simultaneously "blasphemous" icon that no one would expect to find in a monastery. Who is the unknown creator of this piece, whose art is characterized by genuine and unparalleled realism, and above all, how did he come to follow such a daring technique in his iconography?
During a trip to Smyrna, Vegrakis will find the thread of the story in a completely unexpected place. Upon returning to Chania, a tragic story deeply buried in the city's memory will be revealed to him.
Chania, 1900-1922
A mother heartlessly clips the wings that are about to grow on her child's back. Escaping briefly from the damp basement, his prison, Ioannis, an "imperfect" man, struggles to reach perfection. The young painter dares the unthinkable, ignoring the cost. Is his creation blasphemy or an ode to love? But who can judge the art that springs from the truth of the soul?
In the whirlwind of insecurity and tragic historical events, two young people do not hesitate to fall in love to the utmost. A century later, love, human callousness, and the dreadful end are impossible to forget…

First of all, the book is a matter of taste, like clothes, how it will fit on you. I appreciate the author for this, it was also the first time I bought a novel, usually I borrow them. I regretted buying this book and I don't even know if I should donate it to the library or not. Okay, it's a good little story to read... but the ending, for my taste, really bothered me! I was disappointed! If you want to be amazed, read the confession and the Holy Fire, which is its sequel, by the same author, captivatingly!
