Amazing value for 1TB SSD SATA III
I didn't have any problems setting this hard drive in my computer
I recommend this for people with low budget!Did you find this review helpful?I have had the 240 GB as my main drive for my Linux workstation for three years (boot, swap, root, home, in different partitions). Everything was going well, so I decided to add a larger one to my collection of externals, more than half of which I have in the exact same Icy Box case.
It worked for five weeks almost solely writing to an exfat partition. I didn't delete files because I regretted it and decided to make it ext4 at the first opportunity. Today, with about 60 GB written, it started throwing I/O errors and stopped working. I eventually managed to back up most of the data (almost everything except what I was writing today) but struggled to recreate the partition table and format it.
Since I am not that concerned about read/write speeds, at least not for the entire volume of my files and certainly not for those I have in a case with USB 3.0 connection, I thought I would be fine with some low-budget solution. At 240 GB I was right, but I did not see the expected scaling at 1 TB.

For a cheap SSD, it seems okay for now. It was purchased to replace a Patriot Burst Elite that after 6-7 months had started to stutter and the HDSentinel showed a health of 36%. Let's see how long the PNY will last..

PNY 120GB SSD. To tell the truth, when I bought it and installed Windows 10 on my computer, I was on the internet in 8 seconds. Very good and fast. That's why I made a second purchase for an older computer that I had for the kids. At first, I was thrilled. But as soon as two years passed, both hard drives were useless. No computer recognizes them and the windows never opened. So I lost all my files and got frustrated because I didn't buy something more expensive. Whoever buys it should know that it is very good and fast, but its durability is only two years. Sorry, but I am very dissatisfied.

Recently I bought the 120R and I can say that for its price it is very good, now for its durability it will show in the future. I bought the 480GB and installed it in my PS4 (C chassis). Everything worked and installed perfectly and there were no issues.
There is an incredible difference in performance and a significant decrease in loading screens. The loading screen for Elden Ring was timed at just 7 seconds, while on the same game and loading screen, the PS5 was timed at 3 seconds.
I am completely satisfied with the result.
I am looking forward to seeing its reliability and amazing speed over time. An additional review will be made if there are any reliability issues or speed drops.

It has the expected performance for a SATA SSD, but not enough time has passed yet to know its reliability. We found it very positive that it comes in a box and not in blister packaging like other Budget SSDs. It is also quite attractive without any bad white/yellow/blue stickers.

This particular SSD is great, I bought 2 and I use them as fast storage for applications and games on 2 different PCs. It was installed on a 7-year-old ASUS laptop. I replaced its 1TB HDD. With its installation and the installation of Windows 10, I believe the computer's capabilities have returned to 60% of what they were before. In combination with the low voltage Patriot 8GB DDR3 and the replacement of the old thermal paste MX4 on the processor and graphics, I think the laptop will easily last another 7 years. I bought it (120GB, 20€) in April 2021 and it broke in October of the same year.
I used it with software (Windows 10) and it never filled up more than 50%. Out of the months that I had it, I didn't use the computer at all for three months, so essentially it worked for about 4 months. Obviously, it must have been defective, although I don't have previous experience with SSDs and their lifespan. Now, as for the speed, I didn't measure it while it was working. After all, you don't buy the cheapest SSD on the market for competitive speeds, but compared to my old HDD, it was like night and day, and overall, it satisfied me completely.
Theoretically, though, it is one of the worst choices someone can make for running an operating system, as it doesn't have DRAM cache and uses planar NAND TLC technology.
Read a guide about it if you want, but generally, having DRAM memory is quite important for both speed and reliability (especially when used with an operating system), and then the NAND technology of SSDs (affects speed and reliability in general, not just with an operating system) is ranked in the following order of preference:
1) 3D (v)NAND SLC
2) 3D (v)NAND MLC
3) 3D (v)NAND TLC
4) (planar) NAND SLC (maybe one position higher)
5) 3D (v)NAND QLC
6) (planar) NAND MLC
7) (planar) NAND TLC
8) (planar) NAND QLC
(SLC technology is rare or very expensive)
(3D is almost a prerequisite nowadays)
(Most reputable drives go up to 3D NAND TLC, except for Samsung's pro series, which is 3D NAND MLC)There are drives in the price range of PNY that have better characteristics (usually 3D NAND TLC and DRAM), but I also did my research after the fact.
If you enter the name of the drive + NAND type or DRAM in a search engine, I believe you will find answers regarding the technology of each drive.In conclusion, I wouldn't choose this particular drive to run an operating system, especially if I also kept important files on the same drive. (Fortunately, I had them on a separate HDD.) Maybe for simple file storage, although after my own experience, I wouldn't store anything important or irreplaceable. However, the most reputable drives, unfortunately, usually start from 250GB and above.

I bought the specific 240GB along with a Crucial BX500 240GB and an Intenso 256GB.
And they were installed in 3 identical laptops with exactly the same specifications.
In terms of speed, the PNY is the fastest of all by far.
Second is the Intenso, very close to the PNY, and third with a significant difference, I would say the BX240.

Having an opinion from using them in technical support, PNY (along with Toshiba) has proven to be the most cost-effective and reliable solution for SSDs. So far, for over 2 years, there hasn't been a single SSD from this company returned with errors, unlike Patriot, for example, which miraculously survive for over a year but lose performance as they "fill up".
