I don't know exactly how it protects, since it is just a simple t-shirt (yes, as you hear it) that they simply cut in the shape of a face. It is a thin fabric just like t-shirts. It is definitely not suitable for winter and definitely does not provide serious protection. 5 euros that I bought it? Not even close
