The Energy Star program was launched in 1993 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with founding member Xerox.
The EPA created a testing methodology to certify products with specific energy-saving characteristics. As part of regular actions, the Energy Star program establishes increasingly stringent requirements, with the most recent revision effective from October 11, 2019.
These energy consumption standards serve as a basis for other environmental labels, such as EPEAT and Blue Angel, and demonstrate the ongoing commitment to reducing the energy consumption of products.
