The higher the number of the sandpaper, the greater the density of grains per square millimeter. In the lower numbers (e.g., 24, 36, 40…), we have fewer grains but of larger diameter, making them ideal for quickly smoothing rough surfaces, while in the higher numbers (e.g., 180, 220, 320…), we have more grains of smaller diameter, which are ideal for intense sanding and smooth finishing.
