Description

The year is 1984, and throughout the Western world, the totalitarian regime of Oceania has been imposed, engaging in continuous electronic surveillance of citizens through electronic screens and the Thought Police. At the top of the power structure is the omnipotent, invisible but omnipresent Big Brother.
Within this suffocating framework, Winston Smith, a seemingly obedient member of the Party, dreams of overthrowing the regime. His acquaintance with the younger Julia ignites an uncontrollable romantic passion. As love is considered an act of resistance here, the two lovers will face their worst nightmares.
It is astonishing how the bleak vision of 1984 comes to the forefront repeatedly: from the years of the authoritarian communist regimes in Eastern Europe to the military dictatorships in countries of the West and the so-called Third World, and especially today, in the era of religious fanaticism, globalization, and the Internet, with the ongoing discussion about fake news and mass electronic surveillance by governments and large private companies, the dystopian novel that Orwell wrote in 1948.

Excellent edition for travel and truly the book is a masterpiece. Orwell always manages to create very powerful political allegories. It is distinguished by a slight pessimism but you quickly realize how many commonalities ''Orwell's world'' presents with our own. I think it is one of the books that someone must read in their lifetime.

  • Apart from the fact that it has a big gap in the middle, it is an amazing book!
