The choice of the correct grain density depends on how smooth we want to make the surface:

• Smaller numbers, meaning fewer and larger grains per mm2, are ideal for quickly leveling rough surfaces.
• Larger numbers, meaning more and smaller grains per mm2, are ideal for intense sanding and a smooth finish.
• Generally, when sanding a surface, we start with medium grain numbers (e.g., No 80-100) and then sand for more detailed and careful work with larger grain numbers (e.g., No 180-220).
