The larger the number of the sandpaper, the greater the density of the particles per square millimeter.

• For small numbers (e.g., 24, 36, 40…), we have fewer particles but of larger diameter, ideal for quickly smoothing rough surfaces.
• For large numbers (e.g., 180, 220, 320…), we have more particles with smaller diameter, ideal for intense sanding and a smooth finish.

The action during sanding with the sander is clearly greater than with hand sanding.
