It does what it says. I mainly use it on the main supply to keep dirt and particles - stones from entering the water supply network of my apartment. It's convenient that you just wash it compared to thread filters. But of course, thread filters hold more in terms of dirt.

I use it alongside a thread filter and activated carbon filter which I have under the kitchen counter for drinking water.
