Description
The lady of Smyrna, Filio Baltatzi, and her children manage to survive the Asia Minor Catastrophe and reach Greece. They have lost everything and are trying to start over from scratch. The population exchange gives them the opportunity for a better life in the Muslim neighborhoods of Thessaloniki. There, together with refugees from Pontus, Eastern Thrace, and the rest of Asia Minor, the scene of their new life is set.
Thessaloniki becomes the homeland of the refugees, after many difficulties, as it has been irreparably damaged and its multicultural population from the great fire of 1917. The refugees will rebuild their lives as the city's Jews will gradually move towards their destruction.
The work is a continuation of "Beloved Smyrna" and was written after research in Greek and foreign texts concerning the turbulent period of the Interwar period.
