Review this product
  • The MXR "Fullbore Metal = Scrooge didn't write it" M116 is very poorly sounding and not cheap. It's a pedal for amateurs who easily grab an available pedal. Proper distortion pedals for thrash metal and death metal (for black metal, get the Caline Mark 4) ranked from best to worst: 1. Amptweaker Tight Metal (in any version since the basic circuit is the same), 2. Ceres - 3ch Preamp Pedal - KSR Amps, 3. Empress Effects - Heavy (+ for solos the REVV G3 but it's not the first choice).

Very good pedal for heavy/thrash metal. User-friendly with good sounds. The only issue is the built-in noise gate where you have to open it for adjustments. Overall, though, it is possibly the best budget pedal.
