Description

The "Hellenica" by Xenophon refers to the events that took place in the Greek region from 411 BC to the Battle of Mantinea in 362 BC. This is a particularly important work, as it is the most significant source for this turbulent period (4th century BC), and a text that, with its vividness, descriptiveness, and accuracy of narration, effortlessly captures the reader's interest.

The school book mainly includes chapters from the second book of the "Hellenica," which record events such as the defeat of Athens at Aegospotami, the siege and surrender of Athens to Sparta, the seizure of power by the Thirty Tyrants, and the crimes they committed until the restoration of democracy.

This aid aims to contribute to the students' effort to understand the historical events vividly described by Xenophon and to get to know and appreciate one of the greatest historians of antiquity.

Each section includes a faithful translation of the text, complete grammatical and syntactical analysis, as well as various interpretative, factual, and aesthetic comments. Additionally, answers are provided to all the questions in the school book, along with supplementary exercises for better consolidation of the material and further practice for the student (the answers to the supplementary exercises are given at the end of the book).

Finally, all the topics from the Question Bank and their answers are included.
