The extra port is not for charging the device, such as a mobile phone or tablet that has an OTG port (micro USB), but for powering the device connected to the USB port, such as a hard drive. So if you want to connect a hard drive to your mobile phone to watch a movie, or use a mouse and keyboard to play games while simultaneously charging your phone, it won't work. The packaging clearly states "Extra connector allows to provide a power supply to the plugged equipment."

I bought it to connect a wireless mouse receiver to my tablet, and it works great, it found it immediately. I also tried a USB stick and it reads it normally. The only downside is that the second cable (which is meant to provide power to a device that needs it) is a bit heavy, causing it to pull a little when the tablet is upright and the cable hangs freely. If you don't need the female micro USB, prefer a simple OTG cable from USB A to micro USB.
