From the 7 years that I review products, the Rohnson R-Mix n Cook R-5834 multicooker is the one that I was both very skeptical and excited about at the same time.

Multicookers of this kind have been on the market for many years, but I had never had the chance to use or see one up close in action, so I didn't know what to expect.

Rohnson recently released its own version, which features up to 30 different functions. I have been testing it for about a month now, so let's see how the whole experience was!

    Unboxing
We start with the unboxing and inside the package, we find the base of the multicooker where the bowl goes. It has a 5-inch TFT touch screen and a dial button for selecting certain functions.

The metal bowl has a capacity of 3 liters with handles and quantity indicators inside. It has a locking lid and a small detachable lid/measuring cup.

To achieve the 30 functions, it naturally comes with the necessary accessories:
    • Cutting blade
    • Mixing blade
    • Dough blade
    • Butterfly whisk
    • Silicone spatula
    • Strainer basket
    • And the steamer with base, tray, and lid.

The device also has a built-in scale for the contents of the bowl up to 5kg, has a power of 1700W, and temperature adjustment from 37 to 180 degrees. It has 10 speed levels and can operate for up to 12 hours. It has 200 pre-installed recipes and functions that are updated, and of course, it can be connected to the Rohnson app to work from mobile devices.

    Tests
In theory, the Rohnson R-5834 multicooker can be used to replace to a large or small extent several devices and kitchen appliances, such as the pot and stove, steamer, blender, mixer, and food processor.

For some functions, the use may be a bit excessive, especially in small quantities, such as things that can be done in a small blender, like grating cheese, chopping herbs, and vegetables.

Obviously, I didn't make all the available recipes, but I tried to make preparations and dishes that I like while testing the capabilities and options of the Mix & Cook. For some, I faithfully followed the recipes, and for others, I added or removed ingredients. Some of these in detail:

    Pasta with minced meat:
The process was very easy, I just needed to empty and clean (slightly) the bowl after boiling the pasta to continue with the red sauce and minced meat. It's a simple bolognese that can obviously be enriched according to tastes and preferences. The quantity of the recipe was enough for 2-3 people.

    Focaccia:
In 5 minutes and without effort, the dough for the focaccia was ready. Obviously, it needed the necessary rest to rise and then spread on the baking tray and ready for the oven. In my first attempt, I had a larger tray than necessary and needed more spreading. But the second one was better. Focaccia is a quite peculiar recipe and obviously requires practice.

    Simple bread:
Also a very easy and quick process without kneading or a food processor. All the ingredients go into the bowl, you wait a bit for it to rise, and then into the oven. The bread was tasty and fluffy. With a little experience and modifications, it can obviously be even better, or you can even add extra ingredients, like olives and cheese that I made.

    Lentil soup:
Except for the 3 hours that the recipe suggests soaking the lentils, the whole process only required two steps, with boiling and baking happening automatically in the pot. I had to finish cooking to remember that there was no instruction for sauce or tomato puree. It wasn't exactly to my taste, but this is a recommended recipe and I can easily adjust it.

    Caramel cream:
I hadn't eaten caramel cream in many years, and when I saw it in the available recipes, I found an opportunity to use the steam cooker for something different than vegetables or meat. Here, of course, there is no use of the pot or blades, only for boiling the water for steam. Anyway, the caramel cream was cooked properly and turned out delicious!

    Chicken Curry:
A dish that we make quite often at home, I wanted to try it with the multicooker. The process was obviously a little different, as was the recipe. The result was quite good, the sauce was nicely creamy, and I will definitely make it again but with some modifications to bring it closer to my tastes and preferences. Here, for example, I avoided frying the chicken, and I didn't have to worry about the cream curdling.

I also made recipes for cake, pancakes, bechamel sauce, velouté soup, smoothies, and many more. Obviously, you can use all the functions separately and create your own recipes by defining all the steps, quantities, functions, and times.

It also has a cleaning function where you add water and detergent, and it does the job on its own.

I would like the ability to customize the pre-installed recipes, such as if I want to make half or double the quantity of something, I should be able to specify it so that the corresponding changes are made to the quantities, weighing, and times. Or the ability to remove certain ingredients from the recipe, such as with the lentils, where I didn't want bell peppers, without having to create a modified version from scratch.

In terms of capacity, it is more than enough for at least 2 people, and depending on the dish, it definitely serves 4.

    Final Verdict:
And now we come to the big question: Is it worth spending €500 to get the Rohnson R-2853 Mix & Cook multicooker? The answer, as usual and as it should be, is "It depends"!
One answer would go something like this: The equivalent (and more well-known) multicooker in the world, the Thermomix, costs three times as much, over €1500, while a new proposal from Xiaomi that came out a few months ago is sold for €1000. And even if they don't have the same capabilities, it is certainly a very value-for-money and more affordable alternative.

But this answer assumes that you have already decided to buy a multicooker of this type. But do you really need it?

Let's first look at the reasons why buying a multicooker is worth it: Of course, it is the ease of use and simplicity in preparing both easy and difficult dishes. You have a pot where you can chop, crush, grate, puree, sauté, weigh, and cook. The instructions guide you step by step without having to go back and forth in the kitchen, as it does everything on its own.
It allows you to make a wide variety of recipes and preparations while saving you time and space from the other appliances you won't need. You get the same results every time and using it will encourage you to cook more on your own, discover new foods, and theoretically eat healthier. You use only one main pot for cooking and it also has a cleaning program, so that both time and effort are reduced.

Oh, and another important thing is safety. You don't have any hot burners or pots to make a dangerous mistake, or for example, if there are small children in the kitchen, you don't have to worry about accidents.

So, who would I recommend it to? I think any housewife or househusband with little or a lot of experience in the kitchen could use it daily to make their life easier. Even in the pre-installed recipes, they can understand what modifications they want to make to improve the result. But of course, even a complete beginner in cooking, a bachelor, or a student, it will help them a lot not only to make complex dishes but also to learn the steps and the general sense of combinations and procedures through its ease of use.

Now, if you are so experienced, you want to have absolute control over all the steps, or you already have enough appliances in your kitchen that serve many needs, it may seem unnecessary to you. Of course, chefs also use it in large kitchens and restaurants, so I don't know exactly. Also, some older people who have learned differently and do not want to deal with automation, screens, and apps may find it difficult.

The real power of it lies not in the recipes you will find in the software, but in learning exactly how it works in order to create your own, and this certainly requires a high learning curve.

I find the cost of the Rohnson R-2853 Mix & Cook multicooker absolutely reasonable and grounded at 500€, comparing it with alternatives at 1500€ or 1000€. I was satisfied with its performance and abilities, even though I already have many appliances in my kitchen.

Of course, if you decide to get it, you must be willing to use it, so it doesn't end up in a cabinet, as often happens with kitchen machines with dozens of accessories. But I think if it enters your kitchen, you won't want to part with it!

Quite compact design for its size, the 9lt either as a single bin or as two separate ones are more than enough to cook whatever you want. It can even fit a whole (medium-sized) chicken.
I cooked steaks, burgers, chicken fillets and thighs, sausages, and generally several tests and I was satisfied with everything.
The pre-heating function is very useful and obviously you can cook independently in two sections as it has double heating elements.
A very good choice at €150 for a double air fryer of this capacity.
