Description

With the Katana Gen 3, the BOSS amplifier series evolves to take guitar ambitions to the next level. The enhancements of Tube Logic technology elevate the platform with richer sound, better feel and responsiveness, including a new type of Pushed amplifier, ideal for fans of edge-of-breakup sounds.

The Katana-100/212 Gen 3 model delivers rich sound that fills spaces with 100 watts of Class AB power and two custom 12-inch speakers. Tube Logic accurately recreates tube circuits and their interactions, offering the sought-after sound and feel of classic tube amplifiers.

The five amplifier characters are retained, including the Brown type, while the new Pushed character adds a more dynamic response. The built-in Power Control feature allows for maintaining high volume levels without negatively impacting quality.

The Katana Gen 3 features five categories of effects from BOSS's historic effects library: Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, Reverb. Each category contains three variations, providing 15 unique effects, with an upgraded BOSS Tone Studio app for even greater customization.

Features:

  • Third-generation Katana amplifier with Tube Logic sound and expressiveness.
  • 100-watt amplifier for stage use with two custom 12-inch speakers.
  • Six amplifier characters, including the new Pushed type.
  • Five independent effects modules: Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, Reverb.
  • Triple Contour for shaping sound color.
  • Three cabinet resonance options: Vintage, Modern, Deep.
  • Eight Tone Setting memories for storing settings.
  • Power Control for cranked-amp performance at low volumes.
  • Upgraded BOSS Tone Studio app for remote editing.

I picked up the amplifier for a home studio.
The sound (especially the bass) is very good for the price. The high frequencies are not the strong point of the amplifier, but they are quite satisfactory.
The software is, in my opinion, a bit tedious to learn, but ultimately it is very convenient.
The amplifier is quite bulky and heavy, making transportation somewhat difficult.
In the end, it's worth it because the speaker is worth its weight.

Recently, BOSS launched the 2nd version of the Katana series with the Katana 100 MkII being a bit more expensive but quite refreshed.

If you're looking for something similar in an amplifier and have some extra money or want the best in Katana, get the Katana Artist MkII, which has even better sound than the Katana 100 and some extra goodies, like more connections for speakers, etc.

If the idea of difficult transportation bothers you, but you want the Katana sound, go for the compact Katana Head MkII, so you have its small speaker for practice and can connect it to a speaker for live or recording.

The amplifier is amazing; it has all the effects a professional musician needs... I give it 4 stars because the weight is the only negative aspect of the amplifier. Everything else is fantastic; I highly recommend it
