Description
Vasiliki Ralli captivated the reading public with her spontaneous and sincere writing style, starting with her first book "Unforgettable Homeland. Asia Minor" (Akritas 1995). There, through the adventures of her own family (Maragou), she brings to life the glory and sufferings of the Hellenism of Moschonisia and Ayvalik, who, after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, largely sought refuge in Thermis, Mytilene. There, in 1959, now married to Angelos Rallis, she fulfills, with his tireless support, her mother's vow (her father had been lost during their uprooting from Moschonisia) to build the chapel of the Nativity of the Theotokos on a plot of land granted to them by the State, in the location of Karyes. Exactly on that hill of Karyes, where there was an ancient pilgrimage site of the Virgin Mary, the excavation of the vow's foundations reveals the ruins of the old Monastery where the three Saints and other martyrs of this narrative acted. And from here begins the wondrous and paradoxical story of the dreams, where the Saints accurately indicate, initially to the author, but also to others, simple people, mainly from Thermis, the relics and monuments that will form the sacred reason for the establishment of the great pilgrimage of today's Lesvos: the Holy Monastery of Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene. Today, this book of hers complements, summarizes, and organizes the oral tradition of the inhabitants of Thermis regarding the sacred matter of Karyes and covers the events dating from the discovery of the holy relics (1959) to the first period of the operation of their Holy Monastery (1975).
