A sweeping history of civilization from the origin of species to superhumans,
filled with unexpected data, heretical thoughts, strange theories, and thrilling narratives.
A hundred thousand years ago at least six "human" species inhabited the earth. Today there is only one. Homo Sapiens, that is us. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? How did our hunter-gatherer ancestors end up building cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights? To trust money, laws, and books? To be enslaved by bureaucracies, schedules, and consumer models? And what will our world be like in the millennia to come?
Professor Yuval Noah Harari traverses the entire human history, from the first humans who walked the earth to the radical -and sometimes catastrophic- innovations of the Cognitive, Agricultural, and Scientific Revolutions. Drawing from a vast range of sciences (biology and genetics, paleontology and history, anthropology, sociology, and economics), he offers original, unexpected, and often entertaining answers to the most critical questions: Why were humans able to gather in astonishingly large populations, while other primate groups do not exceed one hundred and fifty individuals? Because, he says, our talent for gossip allows us to form networks in societies that would be too large for personal relationships among all their members, while the "imaginary realities" we create and accept -such as money, the church, Limited Liability Companies- keep us in order. Who cultivated whom, man or wheat? Wheat...
Although the concepts are unusual and complex, Harari's skillful prose and bitter, subversive humor handle material that could have been academically dull. After all, the book often returns to another question: Does all this progress make our lives easier and us happier? The answer may disappoint you.

Amazing. The author presents views and theories in a unique way without taking a stand, yet poses reasonable questions and encourages the reader to form their own opinion. It is a book that should not be missing from any library. It should be taught in schools!
I consider it the best book I have ever read. It really took me back in time. Although long, it did not tire me at all and finishing it I think I became a little wiser. Masterpiece.
Exactly what the title says!
Very good book, easy to read. I wish every student would read it in order to "open" their mind after finishing school. A real asset. It deserves your attention.
A book that combines everything in a simple way for everyone. It connects everything we have learned from school, so I highly recommend it.
What can one say about this book? Simply excellent. A magical journey with historical references, analyses, and explanations of behaviors that concern a gender, a culture, anything. It has managed to fit all the important information about humanity into so few pages. It is a book that everyone should read, regardless of their preference for historical and scientific books. The author tries to unfold his thoughts as simply as possible (for him), there are few moments when he will tire and expand with difficult concepts. The purchase of Homo Deus has already been made!
Very nice story, presented simply and comprehensibly. The approach is not historical but sociological. I believe it's perfect for high school students! The edition is not very good, it's like an encyclopedia, small letters and dense pages
Excellent book. The best for someone who wants to learn about human evolution and the position of humans on the planet. Exceptionally well-written, it raises questions beyond the usual framework.
It is one of those books that pleasantly perplex and surprise the reader, and that's because it doesn't focus on WHAT happened but on WHY a significant event occurred in the past. Enriched with apt examples and straightforward interpretations that we probably haven't heard before! I highly recommend it without reservation!
Personally, I liked it at first but then I got lost somewhere and it seems to widen particularly. I would buy it again though.
I highly recommend it! One of the best books I have ever read...
With his particularly persuasive and entertaining style, Y. Harari manages to change the way you interpret many human collective behaviors and how you process contemporary socio-political events by studying those of the past.
The book is enjoyable to read from the first page to the last.
The history of mankind with a unique description that gives the reader the opportunity to understand about the choices of mankind from its first appearance until today and to understand where humanity is heading
If I had the ability to read only one book in my life, I would read this one. It reveals truths with such simplicity that truly any reader can read it.
Excellent book.
I believe that it should be read by young people, especially here in Greece, and they should keep it in their library
Interesting study. Some points are more difficult, while others feel like reading a narrative of historical events. There is a logical connection between the arguments and the conclusions.
I am a biologist and I have specialized knowledge, nevertheless I found it extremely interesting and easy to read due to its humor
Very interesting. With easy writing and humor, it doesn't let you get bored. This way, you have a very good and concise picture of the history of humanity in a pleasant way. I wish the lesson in schools was like this..... I recommend it for all ages
Perfect...very nice book, you learn a lot about our history, the evolution of our species, and the interaction we had with earlier human species
A book that I think should be taught in schools.
I believe it changes your worldview, in a structured and explanatory way, that helps you deconstruct the basic characteristics of our society and our way of life, that is, of homo Sapiens.
