Description
The new series that begins with the title "Handbooks of Public and European Public Law" aspires to convey contemporary views, positions, and methodology that are developed, evolved, and applied in the fields of Public and European Public Law in general. It is addressed to a wide circle of individuals, including students, young lawyers, researchers, judges, and other experienced practitioners of law, who will always need to resort to systematic and ever-renewing knowledge. The student audience, in particular, should learn to familiarize themselves with a different approach to public law, mainly through its parallel reading with union law and with an awareness of the influences it receives from international law and comparative public law. Greek public law is not isolated, and the hierarchy of legal rules that we were taught from classical manuals has been overturned. Many classical categorizations of legal science, with the most prominent being the distinction between public and private law, tend to be eliminated.
Everything is up for discussion, and this series aims to highlight all contemporary issues through collective volumes, student manuals, and monographs. The manuals that the series will host will be successful if they are considered alternative not in the sense that they will host "heretical" positions, as such are only the unsubstantiated scientific positions, but because they will connect the old with the new, e.g., constitutional law simultaneously with constitutional reality, the theory of the rule of law with criticism of its application method and possibly with improvement proposals, or possibly the supremacy of union law over the Constitution with the consequent adaptation of the entire content of Constitutional Law and many more. There are many examples that could highlight the possibilities of renewing the Handbooks, but this will be left to the responsibility of the individual authors.
In the collective volumes, the series will place particular emphasis because its goal is to systematize, to cover in extent with individual studies the entire content of Public and European Public Law and mainly to delve into it, starting from the principles, passing through the rights, and ending with other organizational and procedural nature topics concerning the state and the organization of the European Union. Finally, the monographs will selectively target issues still open to science, which will also provide general information for the field. With the hope that the series will achieve its goal and prove useful mainly to the academic community, I dedicate it to the Department of Public Law at the Athens Law School and my colleagues Professors and Lecturers of Public Law, who have been cultivating the fields of Public and European Public Law for years with consistency, foresight, adaptability to every new development in law, and respect for the demands of the scientific method.
Special thanks are due to Professor George Kasimatis, who prefaced this collective work with the deep scientific knowledge and experience that distinguish him, as well as to the publishing house "NOMIKI BIBLIOTHIKI," which supports the publication of this series.
