Yes, it is, because it shows us that the story, characters, and design of a game, along with the puzzles and the fixed camera, are what Capcom needed - along with a top-notch soundtrack - to achieve a qualitatively terrifying result, without high-tech graphics. It proved that graphics are not the alpha and omega in a game. Today, effects, graphics, along with gratuitous and illogically excessive violence (gore), silly dialogues, and macho characters sell and are popular. These two titles, along with the underrated Resident Evil Zero, which approaches the quality of Resident Evil 1, even though it lacks any of the above, manage to "outdo" many modern games. I had played all the Resident Evil games except for these two, so it was the perfect opportunity to engage with these titles since I didn't play them in their time. I completed both (RE1 & Zero) with both characters in RE1. It was a very enjoyable and nostalgic experience, as the graphics and controls try to maintain that memory we had in the past.
If you don't have patience, I would not recommend playing Zero because the most important enemy in this game is the inventory itself. You will have to do a lot of backtracking to manage the items. It requires a lot of patience.
In summary, this collection is fantastic and worth giving it a chance, whether you are a new player wanting to see what we old players went through, or if you are a gamer from the 90s wanting to see an excellent remake/remaster title.
The 5 stars are a one-way street.

I remembered the house, which is almost identical to the original, and many things are the same, the same zombies in the same corridors, the same puzzles, the same keys opening doors, etc!
I liked it and I didn't regret spending time on it, I finished it with both characters and they have small differences in their scenarios, Jill and Chris.
The sound is really good and fits the mansion environment, it is quite atmospheric, the camera is a bit annoying as always in the first RE games and because it changes and takes different angles as you move, you have to change the player's movement to find the right angle (those who played it understand what I'm saying).
The save points with the typewriter that require special ink, the same style as the old one, meaning you find keys to progress, but also accessories like cranks, levers, gems, and various objects that unlock weapons, etc, to progress as the game directs you. There are plenty of health plants and you don't need even half of them, there are enough ammunition and enemies as well. There are storage boxes where you store items to find them later, but the player can't carry too many, for example, Jill can only carry 8 items and Chris only 6. This results in a lot of back and forth.
Overall, for this price, it is not expensive for what it offers, a very good purchase!

As a big fan of Resident Evil, I couldn't not play Resident Evil 1. Firstly, I have to mention that this was the first time I played the game. I hadn't played it when it was first released in 1996.
We find ourselves in 1998, where the Alpha team is searching for and finds the abandoned helicopter of the Bravo team. Suddenly, they are attacked by the familiar zombie dogs and find refuge in a mysterious mansion. There, the player is given the choice to play as either Chris or Jill. I played as Jill. There are slight variations depending on the character. The story has the mystery and terror that it deserves without exaggeration (unlike RE8). The dark corridors and inhospitable gardens will definitely "shake up" even the most seasoned players in the genre. I must admit that the atmosphere of Resident Evil 1 is far superior compared to that of Village. While the horror and the oppressive vibe are present despite the age of the game.
However, something that is missing is the feeling that the characters give to the player. All the characters, including the protagonists, are "wooden". This is a general problem in my opinion that the series faces, but here it is very pronounced.
The gameplay is the classic and orthodox one that Capcom has accustomed us to. Original puzzles (many of which have been used in recent games of the series), the usual weapons, several areas for exploration that are excellently connected due to the amazing level design. However, despite the positive elements, there are many negative points that hinder exploration. There is no clear objective. The game leaves the player to their own devices, without clarifying what the existing objective is. There were times when I was simply wandering around trying to figure out what I needed to do. From the first chapter, of course, keys are not missing. The issue, however, is that when a door, for example, requires the sword key, it doesn't mark it on the map, it just highlights the door in red. And with so many keys, the player has to go and try all the doors (as if they found a lost key in their house and didn't know which door it belongs to). Additionally, the inventory is quite small (8 slots), resulting in some items being left behind and requiring a "visit" and a second time. Finally, there is the box with unlimited space, as well as the typewriter that requires a specific item (the ink ribbon) for saving.
Unfortunately, the game doesn't fare well in the technical department. The graphics and sound are at least on a PS3 level, with several objects in specific areas being blurry. I should also mention that to open a door, a small cutscene plays. However, the highlight of the game is the camera, which is a "disaster". It is not manual, but automatically adjusted by the game and most of the time, in battles with zombies, it is in the wrong position, resulting in me shooting randomly. The facial expressions, animations, and voice-over were revolutionary for the game's release in 1996.
I completed Resident Evil 1 on easy mode with relative ease, as when I finished, I still had plenty of bullets and healing items left. The duration of the game varies depending on exploration. Doing almost everything, it took me about twelve hours (as shown in the image below with my playthrough statistics). The platinum trophy is quite difficult as it requires multiple playthroughs. Before we draw conclusions, I want to say that I can't imagine how groundbreaking this game was when it was released. Although it didn't have the small improvements it has now, based on the standards of that time, it was definitely something outstanding. Those of you who played it back then are very lucky! Unfortunately, such surprises don't exist today.Should I play Resident Evil 1? Only if you're interested in learning the series' story or if the negative points I mentioned don't affect you. Apart from the story, Resident Evil 1 in 2021 doesn't have anything else to offer. At first, the door mechanics and navigation seemed strange to me, but then I got used to it. Overall, I had a good time with the game, but I believe that a Resident Evil 2-level remake would elevate the whole experience. At the low price that the game is already available, it's definitely worth a chance, and if you don't like it, at least you'll have one of the most iconic videogames in your collection.

Did you find this review helpful?The truth is that I played it (as a remaster, I had previously played it on the Playstation 1) after playing the demo of the Remastered Resident Evil 2. Based on this, I was disappointed firstly because the graphics are simply better compared to the Playstation 1 (not in general, though, as it struggled to match the PS3 in the beginning), secondly because everything was exactly the same as the Playstation 1, the stupid camera, the clumsy combat and controls, the bad acting, the sound, almost everything, and thirdly (something I didn't remember existed) the fact that you don't have any clue about what you need to do (while in the remasters of the other Resident Evil games, it helps you). It almost didn't make sense in several parts, all this back and forth, searching and finding. Surprisingly, Resident Evil 0 was a great game. I hadn't played it before, and I admit that it was what made the collection worth much more. Nevertheless, 4 stars because it is exactly what we learned as those who were involved with these games from the beginning. Besides, it's two complete games at a funny price. For honorary reasons only, it's worth it.

It leaves you struggling, thinking and making dozens of wrong choices until you find the right one. There will be chapters where you won't know what to do, how to progress in the game. The controls are intentionally difficult. The game is not aimed at the average player but at the experienced one, even from the normal position. (For those who don't know who Shinji Mikami is, let me inform you. He is the creator of the best and most atmospheric Resident Evil games that were based on the ultimate horror element, exploration, and of course puzzles!)
So, my opinion is. If you have a collection, you should by no means let the gem called "Resident Evil Origins Collection" go unnoticed, even if you have played it many times in the past! If you are an old Gamer, (yes, I'm talking to you, reading this with raised eyebrows and wide eyes like a shrimp) be sure that the Origins Collection will speak directly to your soul and heart, awakening your childhood memories or nightmares.
