  It was purchased in May 21 solely for storing my photos, videos, and music. It's not meant to run an operating system as an SSD is much faster. However, the file transfer speeds, temperatures, and noise left me satisfied. I had and still have several WD drives and they have all left me satisfied in terms of reliability, which was the main reason for choosing this one. Its operating hours are minimal. During a file transfer from my phone, the progress bar froze, the system froze, and the disk started making various sound effects, as if spinning and stopping. So, in the blink of an eye, it left us without any warning in our year and a half of use. As a result, I lost my little one's birthday, which I hadn't backed up yet, which would have been done immediately after the file transfer from my phone was completed. It still has a 6-month warranty, but I prefer to buy a new one rather than send the one that is full of personal data. 1 star at its value

  Purchase at €145.00 final price.
  Owner of this specific HDD (6TB 5400rpm 256MB Cache) for about 1 week now.
  Before starting regular use, I did a long slow format (took a total of 10 hours), a habit I have from previous experiences with noisy disks.
  The disk hosts a media library and large files (iso, etc.). It is practically silent and I haven't heard it so far, not even when copying the 1.4TB library from the "old" mechanical drive (2TB 7200rpm 256MB Cache). During this transfer, the disk reached up to 43 degrees and the transfer speed was ~150MB/s. Then followed the "classic" reconstruction, but even there the disk did not increase in temperature (maximum of 41 degrees).
  So far, I am completely satisfied, it does what it promises and silently. I haven't loaded Windows or used it for gaming, so I don't have an opinion on such usage scenarios. I will update the review next month, when I improve the cooling in the case and will mention any changes.

  Edit 22/07/23:
  I improved the cooling in the case with 3 be quiet light wings 120mm HS for intake and one be quiet light wings 140mm HS for exhaust. Now, one fan (the front bottom one) blows directly onto the tray for the disks, so they heat up slower and stabilize at a lower average temperature even under load. Specifically, we're talking about 28 degrees idle and 35 maximum under load. It should be noted that the room temperature during the measurements was 24 degrees. I continue to believe that it is a good purchase, so I continue to recommend it to anyone interested.

  In 2 months, I bought 2 blue ones. Both crashed within 1 hour of copying files. I tried to replace the first one's board with the same model but could never recover the files. I opened it up and shook the head hoping something would come loose.
  I left the second one for 1 month and had the exact same RMA.
  For 25 years, I always had WD blue and it never failed me...such a disappointment.
  While they were working, they had good speeds, even on SATA 2 as I only used it for backups on a PC in a LAN

  Now, some complain about write speeds... When we buy a hard drive, we need to know what job we're using it for and choose the appropriate model. There are options for all tastes and needs.
  Disks like this one are great for storing data that doesn't change frequently. For example, you want to have your backup or your "Linux distributions" archived; you throw your files into the disk and when you need them, they'll be there. It does the job well and economically.
  Obviously, if someone puts an SMR disk, like this one, in a NAS or data server, they want and will suffer. Especially when a RAID array needs to be restored, it may take a week with SMR instead of a few hours with the right disk.
  And in general, if someone expects to work with it 24/7/365 or see write speeds at 150MB/s, they will be disappointed. That's where you go for RED or Black and have reliability, speed, and greater warranty, of course, at a cost.

The speed for a non-SSD disk surprised me. My Linux benchmark gave me a max of 420mb/sec. Of course, this speed is maintained for a short period of time due to the cache. Don't buy it just because you think it will give you 420mb/sec after half a minute of transferring a large file of half a terabyte. At some point, the cache fills up and speeds drop to 100mb/sec or something like that. Not bad for a magnetic disk.

  Around 100 days after installation, strong noises started (like scratching on a plate) and after a few days (around 130 days according to HDSentinel after activation), it became non-functional, with continuous disconnections from the system. However, when it stays connected for a few minutes (less than ten), HDSentinel shows 100% health.

  From the beginning - with the noises and passing through chkdsk - to the end, I went through a lot to manage to extract only the necessary data from this 2TB drive and compress it into the minimal remaining space of a green 1TB WD10EZRX with 744 days on the system!!! From simple disconnections (disappearing from explorer) to blue screens!!

  And when you have sensitive personal data, you don't trust anyone with the replacement...

  At least I didn't go through what I did with the Barracuda 500GB that had faulty firmware and as a solution, Seagate released a (second) faulty firmware for the 1TB and bricked everything that hadn't been bricked from the first mistake!!! (https://www.anandtech.com/show/3482)

  The disk is truly amazing, everything the manufacturer claims is true. The size of 256 MB cache is real and the speeds are incredible for a mechanical disk that doesn't have enough money to spend on SSDs. For the reason that games take up space and you need storage space, and in terms of money it is unattainable, I highly recommend this disk with closed eyes. I have 3 different disks, an M2 SSD 500, an SSD SATA 500 GB Samsung EVO, and the two SSDs are not even a discussion. This HDD has the guts to compete with them. When I saw the transfer speeds of a series I have at 500 GB, my jaw dropped to the floor. Instead of taking 6 hours, it took 3 hours and the speed was constant without any drop.
