The hard drive offers a convenient solution when you need to add storage space to your computer and transfer files on the go. Data transfer is done via USB 3.0 connectivity, which also powers it.
Easy installation
The portable capabilities of the Seagate Expansion hard drive make it easy to use. Simply connect the provided USB cable to your computer - no external power supply required - .
The drive is automatically recognized by the Windows operating system - no software to install and nothing to configure - while the built-in power management ensures energy-efficient operation and it is ready for use.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can
report it here.
I already have one here for 6 months and recently got another one. As hard drives always carry the risk of crashing due to their moving parts. It hasn't shown any signs, but don't consider it impossible.
Among the popular external drives on Skroutz in this price category, Seagate is the only one that still has internal SATA drives, so they are the only ones I recommend.
WARNING: A common failure point for external drives is not the internal drive itself, but the SATA to USB conversion board. Unfortunately, well-known manufacturers like WD or Toshiba now have externals that connect directly to a USB port, so if something happens to this mechanism, the drive is wasted. However, in the case of a SATA drive, you can remove it and use it as an internal drive or in another enclosure.
Finally, almost all 2.5-inch drives are SMR, and this is OK depending on the intended use. I filled it up to around 50% by copying from another drive, and there hasn't been any drop in speed.
UPDATE: 3 months later, I am still fully satisfied. I also added an image from the Gnome Disk Tool
UPDATE: After just one year, I experienced serious glitches, issues, and failures in reading/copying, so it's going for replacement before the content is permanently lost.
I would not recommend it for backing up important data. From the first use, during the transfer of several GB, I heard the familiar "click" of hard drive mechanics that signals the beginning of the end...
I have been using two of these disks for 9 years. I doubt if a similar SSD would withstand as much, given that HDDs do not have the aging problem. I have now backed up everything to another medium because, due to their age, I cannot trust them anymore, but they have proven to be reliable. If you want a cheap solution to store files that you don't work on much, I still think it's worth it even today. Although I don't know if the build quality has decreased over the years.
I needed to use it with mac and it was not possible in the beginning, as the data on it allowed the usage only for chromebook and windows devices. After registration on seagate page and reading their FAQs I have found the solution but it took me some time until I could use the product. After using it a while with my MAC I am satisfied. But no easy start. The price of course is unbeatable.
I have had it for about two months and it has developed bad sectors. I lost important work that was stored on it! At the moment, I am writing this in a data recovery company
I give it a 4/5 because initially Seagate is one of the best companies and no one can dispute that. This specific disk was very good for its time, but now disks, both external and internal in devices, should be SSD. SSDs are much more durable in falls and significantly faster. I don't recommend it anymore because it is considered old, but 3-4 years ago I would have told you to get it
Really bad market, left me before the end of the year, lost all the files, I have gone through Christ's sufferings to get a replacement product within warranty where there was no bad handling, drop or anything similar, still haven't received a replacement, I wouldn't choose the same product for sure, sorry. The photos are unnecessary.
The disk has been in my possession for 1 year and 8 months and was purchased for about 87 euros. It is beautiful, in a practical size, quite silent, transfers data quite well, and is durable, in the sense that it fell once on the floor but didn't suffer any damage. On the other hand, its cable is not of the highest quality, it has already been replaced, but that is the least of it. Recommended!
I'm sorry that I bought it thinking it was good and that I would have my work files secured. At first, it wouldn't open on the new laptop. I got the impression that this was happening because it's Windows 11. However, it doesn't work on my old laptops either. I can't do my work, I have to go to a specialist to extract the files for me. I need these files. And imagine that I didn't buy a cheaper brand of hard drive, just to make sure my files are safe (which are mainly products of personal work).
I have the 4 TB for almost 1 year now, I haven't encountered any problems. Fast transfer, it works without issues on any device I have plugged it into (PC, laptop, smart TV), quiet and quite compact.
I have 4 external hard drives from Seagate and 1 internal Baraccuda 2TB in the DVD player slot on my laptop for storage space. But I will talk about the external ones here. I have 3 of them with 4TB and 1 with 2TB. I bought the first one (4TB) in 2017, the second one (4TB) in 2019, the third one (4TB) in 2020, the fourth one (4TB) in 2021, and the fourth one (2TB) in 2022. I have them connected to a USB 3.0 port, which is connected in sequence to a USB 3.0 port on the laptop. They all still work perfectly without any problems or strange sounds, even the one from 2017. I use them twice a week for transferring large files from the laptop to them, and sometimes between them through the port. The transfer speed from the laptop through the SSD hard drive to them ranges from 110-120MB/s, and between them it ranges from 85-100MB/s. It's important to note that I don't move them at all. I have them stacked on top of each other, protected with plastic. It plays a significant role in their lifespan how much they are moved, especially if they are warm after data transfers, as they are more sensitive then. So, if you want them for file storage without moving them, I recommend them to you.
I have had the external hard drive of 1 TB for three years and I used it for PS4. I got a bigger one, so now I use it for my laptop for backup. It does its job well and it is fast. As storage, 1 TB is not much for a PlayStation, but it is more than enough for backup. I also had a similar one with two 2 TB five years ago, but it broke after a fall from 1.5 meters onto tiles, so BE CAREFUL with handling as they are fragile.
I would like to give advice to those who have this specific device and sometimes experience issues such as files not loading, system crashes, or frequent clicking noises. I have had the 4TB version since late 2019 and from the first day, I had problems with data transfer. It constantly displayed increasing Reported Uncorrectable Errors (S.M.A.R.T.) in HD Sentinel, which were loaded into its ROM and remained there forever. After several tests, I returned it for replacement. It was checked and found to be 100% OK. After some time, I discovered the cause of the issues. It's a shame for such a high-quality storage device to be affected by a poor-quality cable. When you purchase it, immediately discard the cheap and useless cable that comes with it and buy a good cable. The cable that solved the problems for me is this one: [link]
If you have a desktop, always connect it to the rear ports for more reliable power supply.
Minus 1 star, of course, for the cable.
I should have given it 3 stars, but anyway, because it is actually a very good device. It has survived 2 falls from the desk to the floor (while it was not in operation), fortunately without any serious consequences.
I have had this particular hard drive in my possession for over three years, and I have a comprehensive opinion about its reliability. Firstly, it is lightweight and easy to transport. Its construction is not particularly special in terms of materials - it is made of plastic - but it has a nice design and its black color is deceiving, as it appears to be of higher quality than it actually is.
Now, regarding its use: I should note that I do not use it for daily backups, but I connect it quite frequently for transferring various types of files (images, videos, documents, etc.) from a PC or laptop. It always connects immediately and quickly without any issues, as I have tested it on different PCs and it is automatically recognized by all devices. It is quiet and its speed is quite good. Do not expect incredible speeds, but it is decent enough for the data that I use it for.
As for the negatives: 1) I have noticed that after hours of use, when you try to disconnect it from the PC with safe hardware removal, it gives a notification that the disk cannot be disconnected because it is still being used by the system. The issue is resolved by restarting the computer, but it is annoying when you are in a hurry to do your work. And 2) The USB cable is very short, as you can see in the photos, which makes it a bit inconvenient and impractical.
I have never personally experienced any drops or sudden data loss that many reviews mention. Now you know how it goes: to be 100% sure about your files, it is good to back up the backup, because you never know what might happen...
In conclusion, I recommend it, especially if you find it on sale. It is one of the best for the features it offers!
I had the specific product in my possession twice, once when I first bought it and once when it was replaced. The first time, while it was full of material with many important data, it suddenly stopped working. When I took it to the technician because it was covered by warranty, they told me they couldn't do anything, they didn't know what was wrong, and they told me that if I wanted my files, I would have to pay 600 euros. Of course, I didn't do it, they threw away the disk and gave me a new one. I wrapped the new disk in bubble wrap out of fear and it was completely silent, which means that the disk was in perfect condition and couldn't be damaged even if it fell (it NEVER fell!). After a year of excellent performance, it suddenly started having issues, it would freeze during file transfers and suddenly started making a strange noise and simply stopped working, and the computer couldn't read it at all. I went to a specialist and they told me that the disk was useless and not functioning, it had failed and they didn't know what was wrong. Two out of two, I don't think it's a coincidence, there is a problem with this specific product and maybe with many others from Seagate.
Think about it, many people like me whose product was also damaged won't bother to write a review, so when you see the reviews of people who have had it for a week and Skroutz sent them a message to evaluate the product and they evaluate it, the real user is the one who comes after 2-3 years and writes if the product is worth it. Look at these reviews because they are the truly reliable ones!
Fast transfer for the average user who will use it for back-up, lightweight and without problems after three months of use. For €95 (Nov 2020) that I bought it, I don't think a better price/performance ratio can be found. Of course, hard drives are judged by their durability over time. We shall see...
I only had it for storing photos and videos and playing them on the TV. In three months, it froze for no reason (no fall, no hit, nothing) and it never got fixed even though I took it to a specialized workshop. I lost all the family moments I had stored
A very good choice to keep your files safe and always with you without taking up space in the storage of your desktop or laptop computer, it is fast when connected to a USB 3.0 port and normal in terms of speed when connected to USB 2.0.
There is nothing special to note about it, it is what it says it is and does what it is supposed to do.
The only complaint we have is the length of the connecting cable, it should be at least twice as long to be considered sufficient.
The device does not overheat, on the contrary, it barely gets warm even under heavy use. It is lightweight and small in size, making it portable.
The product broke after 5 months of operation. It was connected to a desktop computer for backups, without any movement and even on a power surge protector. The worst thing I have bought in years. Now I have to deal with the store's warranty...
With the first hit, one of them broke. A second one needed to be formatted once because it was not recognized and finally it also broke. Guess why it is so cheap.
This specific hard drive had a 2-year warranty from the time I purchased it. 2 months after the warranty ended, it stopped working and I lost everything. I generally didn't use it, just for storage, once a month. Simply unacceptable product. It's a shame I didn't listen to the complaints of others who mentioned such a problem with Seagate. Stay away from Seagate in general...
I had the hard drive for about 1.5 years and it was perfect. HOWEVER, one day it fell from my hands and died. It definitely wasn't the hard drive's fault as they have a delicate construction. I recommend being very careful when transporting it.
I had bought such a hard drive, it was working fine until it broke on its own after a few years. And when they opened it at the service, there was no visible problem
I have him permanently on android tv, he is fast and does not overheat. When I only connect him to a computer, it takes a while to recognize him, but after that, he works perfectly fine!
