The primary concern of social workers active in the field of education is the equal access, inclusion, and active participation of all students in school by removing structural, ideological, material, and psycho-emotional barriers. Especially during periods of economic and social crisis, the actions of social workers focus on preventing manifestations of stigmatization and rejection, as well as fostering a spirit of coexistence and solidarity. This collective work includes multidimensional perspectives for the assessment, prevention, early intervention, and addressing of problems related to school dropout, unstable attendance, low performance, and social marginalization of students in both general and special education. It focuses on means, methods, and intervention techniques for restoring the functionality of children and young people in their environment (family, school, and social), as well as on the evaluation of these interventions.
