Excellent quality - durability. The first one I got must be nearing 15 years (!). I still use it, and compared to the new one, I only hear a slight difference in sound when it operates. Blades and battery, like new. Used for haircuts (about 2-3 times a month) and in recent years for shaving and body (except for...) The reason I repurchased it is the slightly delicate combs that broke and after 2-3 times could not be repaired again. It would be good if it had cheaper spare parts (but then Philips would eventually go out of business). I don't deduct a star for the combs because you don't often find devices that last this long.
I have had it since 2017 and I use it 2-3 times a month for trimming with the comb range 1-7 and once a week for shaving without the comb. The combs break easily, either due to pressure during use or during transportation (e.g. in a backpack or suitcase) and of course, if you forget them somewhere (e.g. while cleaning them). Compared to the cost of the machine, the combs are quite expensive for a piece of plastic that is commonly acknowledged as flawed (I have bought 6 since then at various prices, averaging at €12 each). The handle is not convenient if you use it on yourself, while as a machine, it is mediocre in terms of power/ease of cutting. The battery is admittedly good. During transportation, it requires a lot of attention because the button is easily pressed and it can start cutting if pressed by another object inside your suitcase. Yesterday, the last replacement comb broke, but I will not buy another one again, I am now going for a different machine. Stay away from this particular model.
Powerful machine with sturdy metal construction. Waterproof, easily cleaned with water after use. Many different interchangeable attachments. Quiet compared to older models and does not irritate the skin during use on the face or body. Definitely worth its money.
I have it for about 3 months and I mainly use it for trimming. What I have to say is that the one comb it has from 1 to 7mm is not convenient at all due to its size to achieve a clean shave on the side. It is also not suitable for trimming the beard. In other words, if you want to shorten your mustache, it ends up on your nose. It is not convenient at all. However, it has a very powerful motor and good build quality
Well guys.....I bought the machine for hair cutting at 4 millimeters and beard grooming at different lengths. Starting with the quality, I have to say that the combs are as disappointing as most users describe them!! The plastic is of such poor quality that if it slips out of your hand, it's gone!! If you see the combs, you will understand what I'm talking about! I'm even afraid to press them during use! Now, regarding the use.......on the head and at 4 millimeters, it's simply disappointing because firstly, the head is quite large, so it loses a lot of curves and angles (my head is not perfectly round) and secondly, I don't know why, but I have to make multiple passes and it cuts well in some areas and not in others. Another major issue with the machine is the cutting guide (the edge of the comb) as it has a large distance from the blade, resulting in a lack of precision in the cut! You see one thing and cut another! So forget about precise trimming. In that case, I use my old machine because my new one is simply unacceptable!! The distance between the cutting guide and the comb is so big that I really wonder if they tested it before putting it into production!! I should note that my old machine is also from Philips (the model that collects the hairs inside) and the difference is overwhelmingly in favor of my old one, of course. If you are exclusively interested in beard trimming and rough work, go for it, it's good. If you are interested in detail and hair cutting, avoid it! Also, after a while, it gets clogged, so it needs frequent breaks for cleaning. Additionally, the handle is not ergonomic for gripping as it has an excessive tilt in the body of the machine. It will be more useful for someone to cut someone else's hair rather than cutting their own. These are the few things!! Personally, I didn't like it and I wouldn't buy it again. On the positive side, the battery seems good so far and charges quickly. As for the electric length adjustment on the combs, well...it's not really significant...more of an effect....
New update. July 2023. One of the combs broke for me too and I didn't even realize how!! It didn't fall down, it just came off while removing it from the machine.
I recently bought it with the discount on Black Friday, so I can't say much about its quality over time, but I can say that it is a great machine for home use. The first experience I had with the haircut was wonderful. The cutting and cleaning are quite good, as well as the haircut itself. I have also made a related video, anyone interested can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrOwEm59-sQ
I have been cutting my own hair for almost 25 years.
This is the fourth Philips machine I buy.
The first three broke within five years due to the battery, and one fell and broke!
I cut my hair 5 to 6 times a year, plus "trimming" my mustache.
I have had this one for almost 5 years.
It still works very well.
With a full charge, I can cut for half an hour straight and it still has power.
The only downside is that the comb for the 1-7 scale broke.
The replacement cost me 20 euros with shipping.
Well, okay.
I have already made up for the cost since the first year.
I believe it's worth it!
I have had this one for almost 3 years, and I have been cutting my own hair for about 15 years, so I have gone through several machines on my head. Well, it is a quality thing, the Philips combs were fragile in others I had before, but in this one they are really sturdy. I am very careful, of course, because I have had a comb break from a fall in the middle of a haircut and I didn't have a good time that afternoon. If it gets stuck, it increases the speed on its own. Of course, if you are incapable and don't clean it or oil it, you will have complaints. I don't have any. The battery holds up well so far. However, I bought it for 45€ in 2017. I think the 70€ ones are somewhat excessive.
Update 2022:
The combs are indeed sturdy, but if they fall from the height of the sink, they break, so you have to be careful as if they were made of glass. It worked fine with super glue though.
All good, powerful, with plenty of accessories but it doesn't make sense for the cheaper models to have a case in the boxes and this one not. That's my only issue.
Good construction from good materials and durable, the spare parts have a relative elasticity and the ability that the machine gives you to adjust the cutting distance digitally is convenient, easy and stable.
When the cutting scale is selected, it remains stable during use and avoids accidental changes, the battery has a tremendous duration and the cutting is good enough for amateur use.
Lightweight construction with stainless steel blade, perhaps of moderate cutting, it would be perfect if it had a more immediate cut.
It is a machine with a wide cutting range, you can cut to any length you want, but it is not so powerful and it needs cleaning every now and then because it gets clogged.
It is good in terms of stairs, but the combs are terrible. The comb fell off by itself without the machine, just to say that it is heavy and one tooth broke. The spare part costs 11 euros. The combs have such a wide gap that it does not cut well, especially in short hair. Unacceptable. If I had an old cheap one, it would cut perfectly. I bought another one now with button combs and small gaps in the combs, it gets tangled constantly and you have to stop to clean it. It is not suitable for many stairs, it is a bad haircut, the combs are useless
2022: UPDATE - I have had it for over 5 years and it still works!!! The best grooming/shaving product from this company after all (you sourpusses who didn't find it useful because I also write about shaving... vinegar).
2017: Although it is a grooming product and not for shaving, I gave it 4 stars because I use it for that and it is not its strong point. I have had it for 2.5 years.
It is a good machine. It adjusts nicely, but the comb broke after a year and without it, it becomes useless. Eventually, I easily found replacement combs at a good price. The machine itself is great, it doesn't understand anything.
The comb broke, so I decided to buy a set because it broke very easily, and they told me it costs 35 euros from the official service. Never again Philips
In the positives, the fact that it has many combs for length...
The negatives are that the on/off button is located low and you cannot close it on the spot, it is also bulky so you cannot easily do details, especially behind the ear...
I regret the money I spent, I bought it for 52.50€ but this particular machine is not worth more than 30€.
In the end, you are only paying for the name...
I have this machine for a few months. Very good! It charges quickly and has a long battery life. With the three combs it has, it can really cut hair in a wide range of lengths! The only disadvantage (which doesn't bother me) is perhaps its larger size. Overall, I highly recommend it.
Very good machine, as far as construction quality and capabilities are concerned. Of course, it is a bit bulky. It loses 1 star because within 6 months, a tooth from the comb broke. Other than that, it's fine.
