Description

A dictator resides in Onassis's villa with the "generous sponsorship"... of the Public Power Corporation (DEI). A "sacred" fund allows hundreds of millions of drachmas to be "withdrawn to the heavens," or rather to be received by "national saviors" who are close friends. An American company boasts of receiving ample money from the Greek state without doing anything at all. Greek banks finance the "construction" of tractors in Thessaloniki, but these are imported from Austria! Black market meats flood the market for two - and more - years. Fatal workplace accidents quadruple, industrial profits multiply, and the taxation of shipowners is almost nullified. The "Greece of Greeks and Christians" indeed makes history...

Dionysis Eleftheratos examines the junta's economic, income, and social policies, from the "illusory prosperity" of 1967-71 to the complete demystification of 1973-74, in his new book. In it, not only eloquent statistical data "parade," but also scandals of all kinds, dizzying "sea loans," winners and losers, "fireplaces" and "burned ones." Contracts that make the word "generous" sound utterly inadequate. Legislation and proclamations that seem to have inspired the labor "order of things" that Greece of the Memoranda experienced - decades later.

Also "parading" are the words and writings of the regime's top officials. Vitriolic letters to G. Papadopoulos, "backstabbings" and denunciations, reports from the Central Intelligence Service (KYP) that "filed" the protagonists of the endless party of "loans and non-repayments" - both the givers and the recipients. And furthermore, disputes among the economic "brains" of the dictatorship about what went wrong that shattered the much-advertised - by themselves - "miracle," even before the great shockwave of the 1973 international crisis arrived in Greece.

A research with a strong scent of the era and comparisons of the "just before" with the "just after," a penetrating look at the economics of the dictatorship, in a way that takes into account the "coordinates" of the modern era, but also many of the "permanent" far-right myths about that period.

I bought the book to read, as I have read many books, but the book is full of lies and propaganda.

What can one say, a lot of research, Eleftheratos in everything he has done, from sports to political radio, and music, excellent. The title says it all about the content, it gives you an in-depth look at what these guys have been through.

Full of half-truths in the logic of NOT WORSE OPTIMUM. Simply an admittedly ambitious attempt to redeem the REAL junta, namely the transition. I believe it will do extremely well in sales, given the historical illiteracy of the modern Greek and the excellent censorship that, I believe, it will receive from television
